This series has a very intriguing plot slowly being built upon, but the book centers around the romance between Nikki, Raven, and Mace. While I would find it much more interesting if Nikki were less interested in who she wanted between Raven and Mace, and more interested in the mystery behind the plot of the story, and her own place in it, I would choose Raven over Mace for Nikki. Raven is far from perfect and has a bit of an edge, while Mace is just too(white-hat)which makes him a bit boring. I mean in real life a guy like Mace is great, but in fiction the super-nice guys are a bit boring. I found it annoying and a bit outrageous that the female halflings were constantly referred to as "the females" as if they were animals. I don't really understand what their roll in the story is, other than to provide Nikki with some gal-pals to go on silly shopping sprees with. I love the idea of characters traveling to Europe, but in this case it seemed kind of pointless as they interacted with so few Europeans, and even those they did have contact with (train wreck victims) it was very superficial and in the background. I would only recommend the series to those who like romance centered stories with a plot in the background, and enjoy black and white situations with little shades of gray.
