About the Author

I, Amanda Pickard, am a born again Christian and have the love for children, to teach and mentor them through the word of God. I have four children of my own, and they love for me to read to them. While reading to my children, I was encouraged to write this book. I attend a non-denomination church, where I worked in the teenage ministry with the youth. Through out my life's journey and working with the youth at church, I was inspired to start writing. Once I became a writer, I started out writing skits, plays, and songs. I have two songs that are on albums recorded by Hill Top Records, in Hollywood, California. My inspiring of writing also came from teaching the art of hair products in the area of receiving a degree in Cosmetology, from Miami Lakes Technical and Middle Georgia Technical College. I also have a degree in Medical Assisting, and once worked in Pediatrics. I own a business in the area of Cosmetology, where I have the opportunity to mentor kids, and encourage them to read to broaden their knowledge.

CHAPTER 1

Today is the first day of winter season, and I am happy that Christmas is on the way. My name is Angel, and in my calm and friendly family oriented neighborhood, we are getting ready for Christmas.

It's that special day when we celebrate the birth of Jesus! The Christmas spirit has become the theme of my house, and I am going to let it show in me when I get around my friends. We have a lot of things to do in order to get the Christmas spirit around our neighborhood this year, and at my house, my family has already started decorating the inside and outside. My mom has bought a very tall beautiful Christmas tree which we decided to decorate and put plenty of gifts underneath. She has placed the decorations around the tree for my sisters, my brother and I to decorate while we eat the delicious Christmas treats we baked. We were having a wonderful time choosing our favorite ornaments and Christmas colors for the tree as we laugh and play the game of whose part of the tree was going to look the best. I couldn't wait to tell my friends about all of the fun we were having decorating for Christmas. It makes me very happy because I know it's the time of year that we celebrate the birth of Jesus as we joyfully give gifts to one another. That is when I said to my mom, "Mom, you really know how to bring about the awesome Christmas spirit by giving gifts to others. Kudos to you!"

When I went outside the next day, I told my friends all about how we decorated our Christmas tree, how good it looked, and the fun we had when we decorated the outside of the house. My friends said, "It was about time for them to start decorating their houses for Christmas, and saying they are just as happy, too, about getting a Christmas tree." Then they asked if I could come over to their houses to help decorate since I like decorating. I said, "I have to ask my mom, and if she gives me permission, yes, I can come over to decorate." Whenever I go outside to play, I bring snacks with me like my favorite cheese puffs, fruit candies, and bubble gum so I can share with my friends. As we ate our snacks, we talked about how much fun we were going to have when we give gifts to our family and friends. All of us girls and boys were playing, jumping, dancing around, and getting our fun in when each of us begin to state what we wanted for Christmas. We were joking with each other, laughing and playing around, and, visualizing what Christmas day would be like. One of the things I knew for sure about my friends is that they believe in having fun whenever we are outside.

Each day we are at school, my one good friend Neylah, keeps me laughing about how she is going to be the first to get off the bus after school. She likes to challenge us on who's going to get to the front of the bus first.

I never get out of my seat before she does, ha, ha, ha, and she wins every time. How about I just don't care to? I could be the last to get off of the bus because it doesn't really matter to me. On Fridays when we are on the school bus, Neylah and I talk about what we like to do on the weekends and what is new at the mall for us girls to go shopping for. Some of the boys say that we are too into ourselves, and I say, "That is just what girls do" and they just giggle. Neylah and I seem to have a better friendship than any of my other friends that I play with. In my opinion, Neylah has a tremendously outgoing personality, and she likes to share whatever it is that she has with all of us. Through Neylah, I have learned that friendship comes from the personality of the individual. She is especially nice, she knows how to play friendly, and she never catches an attitude because she can't get the last word in when we are talking. When the bus driver got to our bus stop, I yelled out and said, "Don't forget to call me and let me know if you are coming outside to play Neylah." Then someone else asked if any of us were coming outside to play? I said, "Once I finish my homework, my mom shouldn't mind if I go outside to play."

When I went outside, my friends were already at the playground. I told my friends that it's funny how I didn't know that I had so much homework to do, and my mom made sure I finished it all.

The boys had just finished playing basketball. They were laughing about who played the best during the game. While some of the others were on the swings, Neylah was listening and laughing with them. I shouted, "Whoever gets off of the swing first let me know because I want to be the next person to get on. Then we started talking about what we were going to do at home on Christmas day with our families. I said, "At my house, we usually open up our gifts first, while we listen to Christmas music. Then we thank our parents for all the gifts we receive for Christmas and eat our dinner." Each of us gave our stories of how we celebrate on Christmas day.
