Children's Literature
A boy and a girl are playing dress up and naming body parts in a rhyming text. "A head is for hats and holding your hair—your eyes are for looking and seeing and spying." The focus is mainly on the senses, but not exclusively. Because most kids will already know their major body parts by kindergarten, this book is probably more appropriate as a Level 1 rather than a Level 2 offering. The drawings are cute and offer plenty of opportunity to extend the experience. Part of the "Hello Reader!" series, Level 2. Targeted for grades K through 2 with a note to guide family members who may be helping a new readers. 1999, Scholastic, $3.99. Ages 4 to 6. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
