This book was exactly what I thought it would be, a cute little short story based on true events about a hummingbird living inside someone's sunroom/garden for the winter. It has plenty of interesting facts about hummingbirds and their habits and the author seemed genuinely thrilled about the subject. I also love seeing them feeding at my balcony and really enjoyed reading this book. It reads easily and is not hard to follow so it would be good for younger readers and students. The book was released in 1991 so I am curious as to whether the main character, "Squeak", has ever returned home again since then. So far I have not been able to find any updates.

It was given to me by my step Mom Donna with LOVE. She knows how much I/we-husband and myself love nature. We have hummers ourselves and really don't know allot about them. This book really peaked our curiosity and now want to know every thing about these small winged friends of ours.I am searching for more stories about them and MUST know if Sqeak ever came home again.I had a baby Blue Jay that had fallen out of his nest, that I had raised for months. I had to teach him how to hunt for worms etc... I KNOW HOW HARD it is to set them free,to live there lives as nature intended. But the feeling of helping this beautiful creature superseded the loss of missing my child. He too, began his own life with his own kind and was never to seen again. This was the beginning of many animals I have saved. I am 43 now and just set free a Dove that was brought in by one of my cats. I just can't explain the privilege it is to save one of natures bests. I have saved birds, possums, repties, mice and some I was not sure what they were. This story will put love in your heart and will stay there your lifetime. You WON'T be sorry you made this purchase. Pass it along to loved ones.~Karen~ From Downey Ca.US of A.Want to E mail Me? Feel Free to:at: KarenE-Queen@webTV.Net
