If you have been looking for literature on fasting, you probably know by now that there is not much to be found. John Piper is able to capture the spiritual dicipline in a way that is unlike any other book on fasting that I have read. Piper continues his view from Desiring God being, 'God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied of him.' Piper closely examines our reasons to fast, and we often find that food is not the only thing that we can fast. 'The issue is not food per se. The issue is anything and everything that is, or can be, a substitue for God.'
