I'm a stay-at-home mom of four school-aged boys and the proud wife of a veteran of the US Air Force. I live in Montana where I am fortunate to spend my days creating new worlds with characters I fall in love with. I've written over forty romances and have plans to write many more in the years to come.

This was supposed to take place in 1869 and the author used language spoken today--terms like "Lighten up" and "Stop bugging me". Also, the boys had a soccer ball. The term "soccer" was created in the 1880s in England. She used the word "motel" which is a hotel designed for motorists, usually offering parking. There were no motorists or motels in 1869 Nebraska. If the author didn't do her research, there should have been someone proofreading the story. After reading this book, I have decided I should become an author. I'm certain I could a better job.

Its over a 100 pages, which is nice for a free book. The story is about a women who puts an ad in the paper for a husband in the mid 1860s. But little does she one the man coming isn't the one who wrote her but his brother, and his four sons. The whole thing is just sweet and cute.

There is a reason this book is free: it's awful. It's so bad, I felt like somebody ought to have paid me to read it! Free wasn't enough!! The author obviously did no research. I think the author was trying to convey a setting in Omaha in the late 1800's (horses, carriages, train, bonnets) but had the characters use words like "motel," which didn't exist in the English language in the late 1800's and "soccer ball" - an item that wasn't used in the U.S. prior to the 1920's. In addition, I was horrified that the main character used children to get what she wanted. It was like a self-centered 12-year-old wrote this book - if the author is 12 years old, I'll say it's a good first effort. If the author is older than 12, I'll say "Grow up, learn how adults behave in real life, develop your characters, DO YOUR RESEARCH, and please, please, please, go take some college courses on writing!"

This is billed as a romance novel. However, it ends up being 'Whiny turned Plucky Margaret saves her family.' Is it a romance? Is it women's fiction? Is it the tale of a woman thrust into multiple motherhood and how she survives? Is it the tale of how to bless your enemies? Well, yes and no to all of these. The author tried hard, but had too many plotlines for one novella, so nothing was logically and satisfactorily tied up, but nothing was really left hanging either. The whole story was just about an inch deep. There were several areas where the story could really have become terrific, but then another plot twist was thrown at me, and the first one was left, not dangling, but not satisfactorily resolved, either. Just kind of, "well, it turned out okay, but this is now more important..." Also, a couple of glaring anachronisms were in there. I don't believe that a poor 1869 farm family would have heard of soccer, much less owned a soccer ball. I don't believe that 'pep talks' were referred to as such in that time and place. Plus, weekly shopping at the 'mercantile'? Why didn't she just say 'grocery store', and move the setting to the 50s? All in all, it was a reasonable read. I hope it was a first effort. Otherwise, don't let this author quit her day job.

The plot of this brief novel starts out with a promising premise: in a variation of the Old West mail-order bride story, a young lady advertises for a husband. Unfortunately, the writing quickly deteriorates into distracting sloppiness. For example, the story takes place in April 1869, yet there is mention of motels, soccer balls and one child exclaims "gross." The so-called plot quickly changes focus from the couple's relationship and instead degenerates into an adolescent plot of eliminating a female rival. Skip this book and watch reruns of "Here Come the Brides."

I liked this story as much as i liked A Bride for Tom, her other story where we meet Jessica. Now, I agree that some more research is required, however, the top comment should not be about how the author used the words motel and soccer. How does someone say it is not a romance story? The main character fell in love with a man and was able to show that he loved her just the way she was. The customer comments did not do this book and author justice. She admits that she self edits and has a life outside of writing. She is very tallented and I look forward to reading the other books I have purchased for my nook.

I think if people dont like this book then they shouldnt waste their time writing a bad review. It gets annoying when everyone thinks they know best.

I think that this is a very short, sweet novella. I liked having something to read during my lunch hour that was not heavy and dramatic, but light and fun.

Another nice and simple short story to read. I enjoyed it as much as the other book written by the author (A Bride for Tom).

I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read and really enggaging. The great part of it was that it was short and not overly wordy. Nice quick and enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this book . This author brings true love and faith into romance novels .All of her sex scenes are with in a marriage. Since reading this book i have purchased 13 more of her stories many of which go together . This was the first one of her stories I read but I suggest reading A Bride for Tom first it tells you where she got the idea of putting an ad in the paper for a husband. I promise Ruth Ann Nordin's books only continue to get better and i plan on reading them all.I feel this author has helped me renew some of my faith and made me feel closer to God without being preachy in any way.

This is one of the worst books I've ever read. It was written in a very juvenile style. I'm surprised it has as higher than two stars.

i noticed the word motel, used twice and i dont remember soccer balls used.but these were not that important to the story.it was a story about a young girl who didnt think much of herself who tried to make a good marriage.she was left with a stranger with four young children, but she succeed .i felt very good by the end of the story which was very sweet and fun....

This story was just sweet. I normally like a little more 'kinky' to my stories but this had that extra drama to make one forget. Being a historical piece I was delighted there was none of the normal 'lift your skirt cause I'm a man' crap. Joseph was a bit too unconcerned for my tastes. But it added to the charm of this book. Well done.

Cute follow-up to A Bride for Tom. Has one mild sex act, I don't think it deserves the "R" rating. Enjoyed the build up for Margaret, Joseph and the adorable 4 boys. Loved the ending too - alittle sappy, but cute. (ljb)

The story was sweet. I appreciated the strong will of the woman. She knew what she wanted and went after it. There were a few problems with terminology not belonging to the time. It was set in the 1800s yet had a motel – a motor hotel for cars to easily park. Little things like that kept this from being a stellar novel. But everything else about it was great.

I really liked this book. Was not interested in this period before, but now wish the author wrote more stories about these characters.
