This is the journal you'll use!

Leader's Heart by John Maxwell is a 365 day devotional journal that is a daily dose of inspiration to leaders- urging them to grow in all avenues of leadership. This journal is constructed with four thoughts in mind - connect the reader to God, provide daily encouragement that inspires growth, and help keep the reader focused upon leadership while following God's guidance in the Bible. John Maxwell, one of the best leadership coaches today, teaches the reader that while respecting God's position as our ultimate leader, those of us who are in leadership positions will grow in the Lord and help others to grow too. Having held leadership positions for years, I wish I would have had this book 30 years ago. Each page is a fresh experience in the presence of God and His divine direction for leaders. I am inspired to chart out a 'growth map' for myself and those whom I lead as a result of the information contained in this book. Looking back over the years as I read through the pages of this book, I can see so many places where I was in error, so many places where I was right on, and so many places where growth was necessary. I have always believed in inspiring my subordinates to be the best they can be, but sometimes lacked the proper tools to properly inspire others. This book offers those tools, and is a complete and well rounded volume of life lessons for leaders. I encourage anyone who is in a leadership position, or aspiring to hold a leadership position to obtain a copy of this book. This book is to be read daily, and I suggest it accompany your Bible as a daily "first read" along with prayer.

    Highly recommended - very inspiring!

John Maxwell has a gift for motivating and inspiring greatness in others and this book makes a great gift (but buy one for yourself too). 365-days of motivating and uplifting quotes contained in a handsomely bound hardcover book. For fans of John Maxwell who may be disappointed in the lack of "stories" that he is well known for, this journal is none-the-less, a great resource to go to, which the reader will, for 365-days. Each day brings a fresh start for everyone and each day, a new quote for the reader. Each entry ends with a question to jump-start that day's reflection and perhaps a conversation or two. Was very pleased with this book and look forward to the daily message. A great book for individuals but also I think for book clubs as readers can use the "daily question" to lead discussions. You do not need to be a leader to appreciate this book. Will come back to this book, for its quotes and to review personal reflections, long after the year has passed. Consider this excerpt from March 20th where Mr. Maxwell writes "as you look for potential leaders, you need to realize that there are really two kinds of leaders: those who attract followers and those who attract other leaders........as a leader, whom do you attract: followers or leaders?".....and my own added question for reflection.....whom do you wish to attract - followers or other leaders?

    Great Christmas gift

I received A Leader's Heart 365-Day Devotional Journal by John Maxwell from the Thomas Nelson book review program.

    From the publisher:
Leaders need encouragement too, and who better to send it than the leader of leaders!

Applauded as one of the world's most popular leadership experts, John Maxwell brings many of his winning concepts and scriptural meditations into a daily devotional/journal format, designed specifically for leaders.

    My thoughts:
This would be an excellent Christmas gift. It is appropriate for anyone who is in any position of leadership whether in the church, business world, or even your own home. Each day includes a Bible verse followed by a short devotional thought. There is also a question each day with some space for you to write your answers. The devotional thoughts are taken from various books on leadership. I enjoyed reading this and feel this would be a helpful, encouraging gift for a leader.

    Great Leadership Resource

A Leader's Heart by John C. Maxwell I am a big fan of John C. Maxwell and have read several of his books and listened to hours of his CD's on leadership and relationship building. In this book, Maxwell takes the reader through a year long journey where each day he provides scripture and a short piece from one of his many leadership books. Not meant to be read in one sitting, this is an easy read and a great resource for beginning or ending your day. Although this is not my favorite book from Maxwell I would have to say that I have really enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone currently in a leadership role or those aspiring to be. Definitely add it to your personal library.

Get it for your leaders this Christmas!

This is a year-long devotional journal...one leadership lesson per day. 365 days....365 lessons. Each devotions has a leadership topic, bible verses, some pointers taken from John Maxwell's previous publications and some sections at the bottom for you to pen down your thoughts and reflections.
The topics covered are very extensive and are issues that will be faced by any leaders or issues that leaders need to know for problem solving and in dealing with others.
The book is in hard cover and is rather thick and I don't think it's something that you would want to carry around. I wonder if there's an e-book version. Having said that, the journal is very grand looking with its hardcover and traditional looking jacket cover. It would certainly makes a great gift for those in leadership positions whether in church or in the corporate world. It is also a great gift to motivate someone to take up leadership positions whether in church context or otherwise.
The lessons contained in the journay can be used for small group teaching and group discussions other than just as a devotional journal.

    A 365-Day Devotional Journal of A Leader

In the beginning, I found it is difficult for me to start this book. I was wondering whether I should start from the first page, the page dated today or wait until the beginning of coming year. After reading few pages, I realized that it seems there is no connection from one page to another page. In other words, it does not matter whether I start from which page. It cannot be denied that this book recorded abundant of useful point of views and concepts from John C. Maxwell. This book plays a role as a daily inspiration for leaders to simulate their thoughts. This is true because sometimes we are too busy with our career development, and repeating same mistakes in daily basis. Besides, I agree that as a leader, somehow, he or she might feel lonely and need some feedback or "mirror" to keep growing in the right direction. Therefore, the 365 questions in this book make it becomes one of my indispensable collections. Great gift for the leader in your life

John Maxwell again provides a book with purpose, encouragement, growth and strength in this devotional. Focused toward leaders, this devotional/journal offers a wealth of topics that are relevant, including teamwork, mentoring, stewardship and success. With space for writing beneath each short devotional, this book packs in the power of two. An attractive cover and page artwork, a beautiful book all around.

Each devotional begins with a bible verse to focus the reader on the topic. Following this is a short quote, poem, or paragraph offering food for thought to go along with the bible verse. A short prompt is given to begin each journal space. Each page is dated, and each month is separated by a page, making it easier to find a date within each month. Motivating and encouraging, with clear and concise statements and truths, this devotional/journal is a great gift for any leader in your life. Appropriate for male or female, God's principles in the area of leadership are presented in a way that lifts up the leader and promotes further growth in personal and business life. This book is great for any reader, easy to follow and read. Highly recommended!

    A must for any leader!

"Listen now to my voice; I will give you counsel, and God will be with you." - Exodus 18:19

"A Leader's Heart: 365-Day Devotional Journal" is a daily devotional journal intended to give leaders everyday guidance and inspiration.

Leaders, like the rest of us, need regular motivation to keep pursuing growing and improving their craft. Each page of "A Leader's Heart" contains a scripture passage, some inspirational thoughts form John Maxwell, and a follow-up question for leaders to think on and write about. This is a great tool for any leader, religious or otherwise, to keep honing their skills every day.

I highly recommend this for anyone who is a leader, or who aspires to be. More than a journal, it gives you something to think about each and every day.

Great tool for a growing leader

John Maxwell is a guy who knows leadership, and who loves to help younger leaders grow. This book is a wonderful example of that. Meant to be a 10-minute-a-day devotional, A Leader's Heart is a 365-day character study drawn from Maxwell's whole corpus of leadership materials and meant to encourage and uplift a growing leader.

One of the days is a meditation on Jacob, and though it's in the middle of the year, really gets to the core philosophy of this book:

Leaders can be naturally gifted but have poor character, and that's a recipe for failure.
This is a great way to develop character; it reminds me of Billy Hybles' book Axiom. It's short, digestible reflections on what it means to be a good leader. It ties the Scriptures into good, practical and helpful leadership practices. Whether you're a church leader, leading in the business world or even among your friends and family, Maxwell's lifetime of leading from within the Christian worldview is nourishing, especially in these bite-sized, daily pieces.

Bottom Line: If you're a leader looking to grow, this book will be very helpful.

    Solid Leadership Truths

John Maxwell - "A Leader's Heart." This is such a great devotional for leaders in any area, whether aspiring leadership or seasoned veterans. Maxwell consistently gives solid spiritual truths that can be practically applied to any level of leadership. This particular book/journal set up is fantastic as a daily devotional and poses thought-provoking questions based on the particular day's readings. Readings also cover a wide variety of leadership topics and are pulled from several of Maxwell's previous works, including many great insights from the Maxwell Leadership Bible. A quick, easy read day-by-day. 5 minutes a day to begin building solid Biblical Leadership. Perfect to grow your own leadership or to give as a gift to others in your life. Definitely recommend.

    Great read!

I recently received A Leader's Heart by John Maxwell to review. I read through several days worth of devotional thoughts on several different occasions before offering this review. I thought the book was excellent. Perhaps I like it because of the manly look to it, or the manly illustrations, or the fact that it's a journal/devotional, or maybe just because John Maxwell is a great writer. Regardless, the book was excellent and I'd recommend picking it up for a man in your life that you love. It'd make a great gift this coming holiday season since it starts on January 1st and could serve as someone devotional for 2011. Maxwell makes his points clear and precise only taking up one page a day, with at least half of it being space for notes. The only drawback to this book is the 18.99 price tag. A little steep considering the fact that there's lots of blank space for journaling.

Also, I'm supposed to let you know that I was given a free review copy of the book, but that has nothing to do with whether or not I liked it.

A Leader's Heart - 365 Day Devotional Journal by John Maxwell [REVIEW]

The title is self is explanatory, the book or "journal" was created to be read day by day. Each day of the year comes with a small lesson on how to be a better leader. Sometimes you have outlines, stories, and points of view from the author. At the bottom of each day (page) the author asks you a question based on what you read for the day and leaves some lines for you to write in your answers. This is a most beautifully hardcover book. Can be used as a gift to someone (includes a dedicatory page where you can write to the person you are gifting the book), its beautifully executed and will make a lovely addition to any book collection.

I loved the book! As soon as I read the first page I knew this was a book that was perfect for my taste. I have been looking for a book about leadership for sometime, but a book that was going to challenge me and make me think and this is just that. I like how the book is also a journal. From reading the book I realized that it's also great for blogging, it gave me many ideas to write about and many ideas on what to work on next. Overall I would definitely recommend this book.

This book was a gift from Thomas Nelson for this review.

    Great Devotional, Leader-Approved.

A Leader's Heart, by John C. Maxwell, is a year-long devotional for those called to leadership. It also doubles as a gift book, to give to a leader or mentor in your life, as well as a personal journal. The book has a nice appeal to it, as an older style reflective upon church leadership and pastoral notes in older days. For each day, beginning at the first of the year, it has a simple outlined format: Scriptural quotation, reference/quotation from previous Maxwell publication, and a question/answer spot for you to reflect on the subject matter and glean knowledge from it as to your personal leadership style and team efforts.

    A Leader's Heart

A Leader's Heart is 365-Day Devotional Journal. Yes, you heard me right. It's a gift book + a journal. The purpose of this book is to develop a strong, and solidly dependable leader, be it spiritually or physically. The owner of this book is supposed to read this book 365 days- which means everyday, and jotted down their thoughts on each day. It's some sort of 'questionnaire journal' where there's pre-printed motivational question that prompt you to do some soul searching.

There are loads of scriptures in it. Reminding you that even when you're a leader, you should not forget that there's a holier leader up above, which is Him.

One of my favourite scripture in the book is this:

9"So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Luke 11:9-10

And then... below of the scripture... it explains how you could apply it to your business and also leadership quality, with a questionnaire of the day, which is; What do you do when you face with a difficult decision?

This is really a good book... well, at least to those leaders who would set some time aside to be closer to God through writing a journal and reflecting about themselves.

Do I recommend this book? Yes... I do, recommend this book. good for businessman and anyone who would like to bring out a leader in them.

Thomas Nelson Publishers provided me this book for an advance reading as part of their Booksneeze bloggers program . I was not required to write a positive review and therefore, the book review is 100% my own opinion.
