Overview

Book three of the bestselling Crimson Worlds series (over 600,000 sold)...

The Alliance and its colonies have called a truce and signed the Confederation Agreement, providing the frontier worlds with guarantees of self-government. No one expects the deal to last, and both sides are preparing for the next showdown.

But from the depths of space another challenge is coming, one that will endanger the very survival of mankind and force not just the Alliance and its colonies, but all of the Superpowers, to join forces or face annihilation.

The dusty ruins the Alliance discovered on Epsilon Eridani IV were built by an ancient race, eons dead. But their guardians remain, and the disturbance of the long silent caves triggered an automated alert, one which has been heard.

Erik Cain and his Marines grimly take to the field once again, for what may be their final battle, against the robotic legions of the First Imperium.

But facing a ruthless and technologically superior enemy may be easier than learning to fight alongside old enemies.

This was a fun read in the military sci-fi genre. This series held special appeal as I was able to draw parallels between the events in the story and in history: the American War of Independence and the French invasion of Spain during the Napoleonic era.

To call Jay Allan fans "libertarian knuckledraggers" who enjoy a little "anti-government porn" seems a bit extreme. Jay Allan has a particular point of view and he he has a rather blunt way of expressing it, true. And some of his characters (mostly the bad guys) occasionaly seem rather two-dimensional. But he does raise some rather crucial issues that resonate across the centuries which only the most foolish commentator would dare to ignore. On the whole, I found "A Little Rebellion" a very good, clever and entertaining read and cut or two above the space westerns which, sadly, often populate this genre. I presume the above-cited reviewer would even consider Robert Heinlein unworthy of serious consideration. Closed-mindedness is certainly not an affliction enjoyed only by some conservatives and libertarians.

This is classic military sci fi adventure. Enjoyed the first two books a little more, but this one was a lot of fun. Am now reading the fourth book of the series.

the characters in this tome, especially the bad guys, are shallow with no depth. they are cartoonish in their emotional range. the "good" guys seem all too willing to die, but usually it is lesser characters doing the dying. My primary complaint with this whole trilogy is the obvious political slant of the author. this trilogy is basically a nonstop condemnation of centralized government. yet our heros become government officials, just a different government. this is a silly story that tries to elevate libertarian ideals and make them seem possible. it takes no account of true human motivation or economic realities. don't waste your time unless you are a libertarian knuckle dragger that needs some anti government porn.
