Meet the Author

Mountain men, Voyageurs, pioneers and explorers make up Dave’s family tree. His mother’s side was from Canada where men plied the fur trade. Some ventured into the Rocky Mountains during the beaver boom in the 1820’s. Others moved into the wilds of Northern Minnesota and established trading posts among the Chippewa Indians.
On his father’s side were soldiers, veterans of the War of 1812 and the Spanish American War. His natural grandfather died in the west while working as a railroad telegrapher. His step grandfather, born in the 1800’s, was a Blackfoot Indian from Montana. He was a hunter and horseman who brought a great deal of Old West influence into the Fisher family.
Dave inherited that pioneer blood and followed in the footsteps of his ancestors. Originally from Oregon, he worked cattle and rode saddle broncs in rodeos. His adventures have taken him across the wilds of Alaska as a horsepacker and hunting guide, through the Rocky Mountains of Montana, Wyoming and Colorado where he guided and packed for a variety of outfitters.
Dave weaves his adventures and experiences into his writing. His style draws readers into the story with realism as a result of personal knowledge of the west, its people and character. His novels, numerous short stories, non-fiction articles and cowboy poetry have been internationally published. He was awarded the Will Rogers Medallion Award for Outstanding Western Fiction and his short stories have won numerous Reader’s Choice Awards. Dave’s Poudre Canyon Saga, published by Bottom of the Hill Publishing, is garnering fans around the world. Dave also contributed a short story, The Double Deal, in Bottom of the Hill’s 2010 publication entitled TRAILS WEST. A MAN FOR THE COUNTRY is the sequel to the 2011 publication of BITTER GRASS.
