Dark Matters Series
Book 1

Lady Lily d'Bulier is prim, proper, and prefers to think of herself as pragmatic rather than timid. And avoiding life-threatening situations at all costs is just plain practical. But everything changes when Lord Adair tracks her down in London; searching for answers he seems to think she has.

Greyston Adair is a blackguard and a smuggler, although British Customs will have to catch him red-handed to prove the latter. Fortunately, the dirigibles they float around in have never been able to get near his air dust.

Hell is rising, One Demon at a Time...

With Lady Ostrich hunting them, and the mystery of how their lives tie back to Cragloden Castle and the powerful McAllister clan, Lily has no option but to throw propriety to the wind and run off with Greyston to Scotland, away from the immediate danger and toward possible answers.

Five star circumstances  Demons and dirigibles, celludrones and seawater, what a world we could have lived in. A wonderful example of steampunk in the Victorian era. I love the mixture of fact and invention that comes with steampunk, an era that traditionally has been seen as so hidebound and tied up in propriety yet with steampunk you can see the flip side and what could have been. The richly drawn characters are so alive that you connect with them from the start "leaving her friend no option but to join in the retreat to a suitable niche between a pot plant and a mummy. “Whom are we hiding from?” “We’re not hiding, we’re blending.”" From this first impression of Lady Lily dragging Lady Evelyn into blending you are caught up in the action as along with Lord Adair, Grey to his friends, Neco and Ana a couple of very special celludrones, William a carriage driver and of course an automaton puppy you are dragged from London to Scotland on an adventure that will open your eyes to what is really around you. So grab your goggles and buckets of seawater and come and battle demons in the first book of this wonderful series.  I received a free copy for an honest review.

I'd never read a Steampunk before, so this was a first for me, and all I can say is that I really enjoyed this story! Ms. Robyns perfectly captures the essence of the genre: a delicious interplay between the stiff formality of the Victorian era and the unbounded freedoms of the paranormal. Ms Robyns' characters are finely drawn and their dialogue is wonderfully witty. Lily is a smart and feisty heroine, and with his wounded soul, wicked humor and super good looks, Greyston is a hero to die for. With its fresh take on the universal theme of good vs. evil, the plot is both imaginative and clever, with enough twists and turns to keep you turning the pages until the wee hours, and even then you want to keep reading, so I'm hoping book two in the series will be out soon, as I can't wait to see what happens to Lily and Grey and how they deal with their new reality: a world that's both frightening and enticing...a race against pure evil.

Just another bodice ripper romance dressed up with some fantasy/sci fi. Would rate it lower except the fantasy/sci fi is creative.
