Overview

Someone is setting death-spells targeting mortals and elf blood alike. With her mentor out of commission, it’s up to half-trained Warder Mona Lisa Kubrek to stop the magic. Despite being told repeatedly her job is to nullify spells and not go after the source, too many people are at risk for her to not track the spell-caster down. Even meeting a sexy half-elf shifter won’t distract her from her goal.

Except Cart Dupree is fully trained and has the team to search for the evildoer, so she’d be stupid to not use his expertise. Stupid is something she can’t afford to be, not with her enemy’s henchmen after her. Later she’ll deal with Cart and his questions about her special abilities and the non-standard training her mentor has given her. Right now, they need to unravel where the magician is, and who he is, before he builds enough power to decimate them all.

First, though, they need to stay alive.

A matter of fate was a different type of fae book from previous fae books that I have read. The terminology and structure of the society I thought could have used a little clearer definition. At some points it just seemed like too much was edited out or this was not the first in a sequel. A few times I noticed a few word changes like then for them in a few places. Nothing too much, but it did catch my attention, I think because I was so focused on what the heck was going on word for word. Maybe this is me, but I noticed that sometime a person would say well remember what so and so told us, but really there was not a conversation that I remembered reading that was related. Maybe I missed it, maybe it was edited out, I just don’t know. At times in this book it seemed I had to go word for word to try to piece the story together, and then I’d get to an area of the book that was perfect and flowed well. I loved the chemistry Mona and Cart shared. I look forward to reading more about them in the future, if there is more to the series. It seems like there will be more books. I would love to read more about Nic and Tania. I did notice that once or so, Nic was written as Nick then mostly was referred to as Nic. Not that big a deal, just something I noticed. I liked reading about all the outfits and outlandish things Puck would do. He was funny, determined, and a great character. He kind of reminded me of Jinks from Kim Harrison’s Hollow’s series. All in all this was a good read, and I would look forward to reading more from this series and author. The cover is rather nice too. This book was given for an honest review.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.  I'm a sucker for Paranormal Romances, and I must say that I enjoyed this one quite a bit! It was full of otherworldy Folk like witches, shifters (yum), imps, and many other creatures.  It was very well written and easy to follow. Once I started it, it was hard to put down! The main couple, Mona and Cart, have been tasked with finding who is killing the imps and entrapping the Weres.  I am not a fan of giving away the whole story during a review, so I will just make a suggestion, pick it up and read it. If you enjoy paranormal works, you will enjoy this one!

Good paranormal read, I would have liked more back-story of elf powers and such earlier in the book because I don't read a lot of books from this genre but I really liked it!

Fun new spin on magic in the paranormal world. Lots of action, magic, strong female lead, vivid descriptions and just a tinge of romance. The ending sets up a nice platform for an exciting sequel!
