Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Anita Barnes Lowen
Join Tom as he sets sail in search of the pirates who attacked his father's ship and took everything. His family is "falling into the depths of poverty" and Tom wants to set things right. You do not know much about ships and sailing? No matter. Tom does and he will explain everything...if you agree to go with him. Follow the mazes on each page to reach the coast and the ship and, in the end, the treasure. Along the way, you will find that Tom is an incredible source of information. Learn about the supplies needed for a sea voyage (barrels of salted beef and hard-as-rock biscuits). Explore the ship from the belowdecks to the upper decks with their masts and rope ladders known as "rat-lines." Find out how wounded sailors are cared for after a fierce sea battle and learn what might happen to the captured pirates. Will some "dance the hempen jig?" Set a new course with a map that may lead to the treasure stolen from Tom's father. Finding the treasure is not so easy: you have to crack the map's code before you can begin your search. The nine mazes are harder than they might appear, but do not despair. You will find solutions at the end of the book along with a glossary and index. This is an entertaining and educational adventure. Reviewer: Anita Barnes Lowen
