Meet the Author

Lizette Mujica Laughlin, a native of Cuba, is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, where she has been on the faculty for more than 20 years. She is an ACTFL-certified oral and writing proficiency tester/trainer in Spanish/English. Her proficiency training has played a pivotal role in her professional development, for example, as upper-level course coordinator at the University of South Carolina, author, and tester/trainer for ACTFL.

Maria Spicer-Escalante is an Associate Professor of Spanish and Linguistics at Utah State University. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in Hispanic Applied Linguistics with Concentration on Second Language Acquisition. She has published multiple articles for scholarly publications and has run workshops on teaching writing to Spanish Heritage Learners and is a NCATE Program Reviewer. Maria has taught Linguistics and Spanish in several institutions in the United States and in Mexico.

Helen Hamlyn is a director at the Language Testing International Center and has worked closely with Lizette developing testing materials for ACTFL.
