I was expecting so much from A Million Suns, the second installment of the Across The Universe trilogy by Beth Revis...and she did not disappoint.
In A Million Suns, we pick up three months later after Across The Universe. Similar problems, but now Elder, who is now leader, must face the people on Godspeed who are no longer under the influence of Phydus, thus allowing them all to be able to think for themselves. Good idea or bad, you'll see how this plays out throughout the pages of A Million Suns. On top of that, Elder and Amy are provided clues by a now frozen Orion who leads them on the hunt for clues that will uncover an ultimate secret that they and everyone else on Godspeed will never forget, and that will change the course of their lives...forever.
A Million Suns was a perfect follow up to Across The Universe. Revis has worked her magic again, and has allowed yet another glimpse into this futuristic dystopian world on Godspeed. I found the speed of this installment alot quicker than the last. There was a lot more action within the pages, which made it all the more difficult for me to put down. I was quickly absorbed again by the vast surroundings described in the book. Revis' writing style is so addictive and flows perfectly from page to page.
Again, we are treated with a different point of view for every chapter...that of Elder and of Amy. Some of the chapters were but a few lines/words which I felt really impacted the feel of the situation. A lot of the time, short was definitely sweet. I was, again, emotionally swept up in the different drama's going on throughout the book...sadness for Victria, hate/anger for Luthor and Bartie, love and frustration for Amy and Elder.
We also see a little bit more of the relationship between Amy and Elder in A Million Suns. What I really enjoyed about Across The Universe and A Million Suns was that the main focus was not about wanting or seeing Elder and Amy fall in love and live happily ever after (although there are a few smile/swoon worthy bits), but rather to read about the existence of an entire civilization, see the different problems that happen and to pretty much solve a mystery (or 2).
I devoured this book, as I did the first, and was very hesitant in finishing it. I was just not ready for this ride to end just yet. And when I did finally end my torture, I needed more! During a quick Twitter conversation, Revis had joked that she felt she should have included a warning label for the cliff hanger ending for A Million Suns, and after readingit...she totally should have! I was left with so many questions, and so many different scenarios floating around in my head about what could happen in Shades Of Earth, the third book of this series! I cannot WAIT to see what happens next!
If you were a fan of Aross The Universe, you will definitely want to pick up a copy of A Million Suns. You will not be disappointed, and you will be left wanting...!

I was a bit skeptical picking up this book seeing as the first book was good but didn't really catch my attention as much as I wanted it to. Still, I wanted to read the next book just to see what happens. Ms. Revis, I tip my hat to you.You have not only single-handingly blew me away, but you totally caught me off guard with your amazing plot pacing!
What amazed me about this book is the great plot. Not only was I intrigued and drawn immediately to such an amazing world, but my heart pounded! I was so excited to be in Amy shoe's following clues to a dark secret hidden in the Godspeed. That's what got me hooked, the secret. The clues that Amy must find in order to enure survival. Ms. Revis pulls in her readers strongly with a temptation I could not resist. Did I find the secret? You bet I did.
The characters of the book were so awesome. They grown up so much and understand so much more. Both Elder and Amy rely on each other smarts as well as each other strength to get them through. I adored that in moment by themselves, they had a peace that no one could enter. That their love grew strongly no matter what was happen at that very moment. Ms. Revis built such a wonderful relationship for the reader to fall into. At every point of view switch, the reader is not confused or left behind. Instead, the reader is brought to a whole new level of reading. A level where the reader is the character and can see, feel everything they can.
A Million Suns is a phenomenally successful story that everyone should read. It is a timeless piece of friendship, love and lost. A Million Suns is a fantasy epic with undeniable victory in the writing. With a moving plot that knocks you off your feet, A Million Suns is a must read!

I tried really hard to like this book .
I tried really hard to like this book because the base plot, the skeleton of the book, was great. However, I struggled even more to keep reading. I did not like the main characters. I did not like how the author dwelled on serious topics such as rape (that had very little to do with the plot) without giving it the seriousness it deserved, but skimmed over most of the emotion behind a rebellion (which was a central plot line) and turned it into a bunch of people waving sticks. The lead female isn't a lead at all, she's just...I can't even describe how much she ruined this book for me. The lead male wasn't much better. All of the characters had personality and emotional inconsistencies that were extreme and, like the first book, reminded me of a soap opera. A *bad* soap opera.
When the author actually focused on the plot and stopped "livening things up" with frivolous drama, the book was pretty good. Predictable, but still good. The ending, with the exception of Amy and her frayed/immature moral compass, was pretty great and kept me interested and allowed me to finish the book.
However, no matter how great the plot is, a book is only as good as its lead characters. And they were terrible.

Frex! January cannot come fast enough! This is my absolute favorite series that isnt yet a fandom. Its so good and exceeded my expectations so well I cant even decide whether i like the first or second better. I can understand why people dont like Amy. She is bratty and annoying sometimes. However i think that the author represented the character very well. Shes more of a typical teenage girl, maybe a little more sensitive and emotional. The point is, Ms. Revis wasnt going for a Katniss Everdeen herione. Amy is her own character and I cant wait to see how she changes throughout the third book.

First book was amazing saving up for this book! Soooooo much tension in my body! Just finished Across The Universe about a min ago litteraly! It was amazing! Think im gonna read Insurgent by Veronica Roth if you like this book read Divergent by Veronica Roth then the second book, Insurgent great books!

After the events of the first book, the ship is in chaos, and Elder struggles to keep things running without resorting to the inhumane control of the previous Eldest. The entire time I was reading/listening to this book, I had to pause for minute. I’m a very immersive reader if given the proper setting and descriptive prose (which Ms. Revis gives in spades). Often times I felt myself getting claustrophobic as I would imagine what it would be like to be stuck inside a huge ship, in the middle of outer space, with no chance of getting out while all of this chaos is taking place. I mean, can you imagine being trapped inside a spaceship with no chance of escape? Not being able to go outside for fresh air, or just jump in the car and go somewhere to clear your head? Freaky!
I loved the mystery that Amy and Elder find themselves engaged in. It was exciting and not once did I completely figure everything out before it was finally revealed. There are also a lot of questions about human behavior and how far you can go when trying to control a society out of control. The line between right and wrong is often blurred and will definitely make you think.
This is an amazing read, and if you’ve not yet read the first book, I HIGHLY recommend this series. The ending was perfect and I can’t wait for the next book!

Ok i love this book...i especially love Eldet....but i jusy have to get this off my chest....i really just want to punch amy in the face ...i kind of really dislike her shes bratty and just stupid...there were times when i literally wanted to stop reading because Amy was just so frexing annoying! I really hope her parente die in the next book ot something because she just needs more going on
Other than that....the book is awesome...the rest of the characters are great and the whole situation on the ship is suspensful l....cant wait for the next one...dear god though pkease fix amy....just please.

But when the ship is plagued by strange murders, Amy and Elder must unite to figure out what Orion was trying to tell them and who is killing off citizens who don’t follow the leader. The only thing they really know, though, is they have to get off this ship.
A MILLION SUNS, to put it in their terms, is frexing brilly. The plot is fast-paced, so the reader will be tearing through the pages as fast as possible. Revis excels at creating tension in every chapter, on every page. I felt like I was holding my breath the entire time I read it. Since this is book two of the series, the characters are familiar, but we go deeper into their psyche, their hopes, their fears. The mystery surrounding the ship and people keeps readers of the edge of their seats. The romance is messy, awkward, passionate, everything a teenage romance should be. The political undertones and philosophy add another dimension to this novel very familiar to our own times. I love how the reader can follow along with the clues in the main mystery, although Revis keeps some surprises to the very end.
I’d give Beth Revis’s A MILLION SUNS a million stars, if I could. I love this series in a “stand in line at midnight on opening night at the movie theater” way.

How the frex am I supposed to wait another year to find out what happens with Amy and Elder?! *sighs* There's always pressure for an author to deliver a follow up book that's just as good if not better than the first and "A Million Suns" does not disappoint. This sequel has it all, action, adventure, romance, even a mystery to solve that could change the fate of everyone aboard the Godspeed. As Elder continues to solidify his role as Godspeed's new leader, he's met with resistance especially now that Phydus is no longer in use. The fact that there are many who view Amy as a threat doesn't help, and things only get more complicated after Elder uncovers a shocking secret, one that will have he and Amy searching for clues that could affect everyone on board. The more time they spend together, the less they're able to deny the feelings that are developing between them but Amy still questions. She believes love is a choice and wonders if she and Elder weren't the only two their age, if they both had a choice, would they still choose each other? Better yet, would she still choose Elder because, let's face it, we KNOW he'd choose her. (Personally, I think she needs to "choose" to stop frexing thinking so much.) As their search continues, becoming more dangerous at every turn, the ship goes into complete chaos. Frex! Will Amy and Elder be able to find the answers they need in time and at what cost? Trusts will be broken, loyalties questioned, lives lost and love tested, all for the sake of hope in a New Earth...a new beginning.

I finished my copy last night and all I can say is. WOW!!! An amazing read, mouth dropping, speechless, non stop thrill ride.. There is never a dull moment and chapter 57 (i think that is the one) will have you on the edge and wanting more... Great job Beth Revis. Too bad and so sad that we have to wait another year for the finale book.. Can't wait.

This was a pretty good follow up to Across the Universe (which I really enjoyed).
Imaginative and suspenseful with the perfect amount of romantic tension.
the only damper for me was that I REALLY don't like the Amy character. At all.
She comes off as selfish, reckless & single minded to me, but I guess that is an adults
perspective of a teenage girl.

If I had to come up with only 2 words to describe A MILLION SUNS it would be ‘gripping suspense’. So gripping it was almost paralyzing. I can only imagine what Revis felt when writing it; to have to experience certain scenes over and over again until she got the story just right. And man did she nail it. There were times I had to lay the book down and take a calming breath. I seemed to have the same fear running through me as the characters had running through them. Just so darn intense!
Now it has been some time since I finished ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, so I am a little ashamed to say I had forgotten a little bit of how it ended. But Revis gives us readers a little history without it ruining the beginning of the story. It is just enough to remind us what happened previously and once I remembered I was immediately caught up in the story. Caught up in the characters…caught up in the deception…caught up in the impending destruction of a once civilized ship.
I really cannot go on much more in fear of leaking the story line and ruining it for everyone. But know this…if you read ACROSS THE UNIVERSE then you will want to read A MILLION SUNS. I felt it was much better than the first book thanks to the suspenseful scenes, the growing feelings between Elder and Amy, and some really whack job characters you’d like send out the space chute.

My Thoughts/Review:
I really needed this book. I didn't realize that all of the books that I have been reading this year so far up until this point haven't been that awesome compared to this book. I seriously am kicking myself in the butt for waiting so long to read it. I should have read it when it came out in January. I really can not believe how Beth Revis could create and write a book so spectacular in Across the Universe and then go back and make a sequel that tops that. Beth Revis is such a spectacular author. She weaves a story with her writing that is so detailed, unexpected and thrilling. I can not explain to you how amazing this book was. It completely skyrocketed and went beyond all of my expectations for it. I mean right from the beginning I was thrust into an awesome adventure and journey of a roller coaster ride that I had no clue which direction it would take me in. I had to of audibly gasped at least a million times throughout this whole book, that is literally how many twists and turns A Million Suns has.
Godspeed has many more lies and cover ups then even I was expecting. I thought everything was settled in the first book but I was totally wrong and wasn't expecting anything that happens. A Million Suns blew my mind. I didn't think this book series could get any more better and it has. The mystery and intrigue of the first book grows even more. The story is built on top of one lie after another and you would never expect the direction that this book has ended up in. My mind was literally turned upside down on its head from how awesome this book was. I can't say it enough.
I really loved all of the new characters that were introduced and the things that happen to them are astounding. You also get to learn more about other background characters that were introduced earlier. The intrigue and mystery is what really made me dive head first into this sequel. It kept up the pace and didn't disappoint at all.
If you haven't read this series it is seriously incredible and needs to be read. So far this is my favorite book of 2012. Every single time I wasn't reading this book I was thinking about it and was wishing that I was reading it. I read this book so fast I wanted to slow myself down so I could make the amazing experience last longer. The mystery is hyped up even more on Godspeed and it leads to chaos throughout the entire ship with Elder's leadership coming into question. Amy has a big choice to make and you will have to read the book to find out what that choice is. The whole ship is like a microcosm of Earth and gets thrown into disorder and has no clue what is in store for them.
A Million Suns ends in such an exciting adventurous way which impacts everyone on the ship. I can not wait to see how the journey continues and what happens to everyone on board the ship. I can't wait to see how Amy and Elder's relationship progresses some more and what is in store for the both of them. January 2013 can not come fast enough, I want to read Shades of Earth right now. Who else is with me?
