Overview

Can you live 28 years without discovering you’re a witch?

Lauren is downtown Chicago’s youngest elite realtor. She’s also a witch. She must be - the fetching spell for Witches’ Chat isn’t supposed to make mistakes. So says the woman who coded the spell, at least.

The tall, dark, and handsome guy sent to assess her is a witch too (and no, that doesn’t end the way you might think). What he finds in Lauren will change lives, mess with a perfectly good career, and require lots of ice cream therapy.

A MODERN WITCH is a full-length novel, 81,000 words or about 300 pages.

I usually don't get into this type of girly book... the magic yes but the rest not so much. I was hooked after the first chapter, and a fan by the end of the book. I can't wait 2 read the next one. This might b a work of fiction, but also has some well written and factual truth. Bravo 2 the writer :)

Found this book trolling around, am having a great time reading it, have bought the 2nd one and a couple more by the same author. I even went to her site to be on her e-mail list so I can get the update for her new ones coming out. For the price to try this I HIGHLY recommend it, anyone who enjoys reading about "good" witches I think will have a Great read. The characters are quirky and the story is fast to start, I really don't want to put it down. Wonderful new author. Skky

A Modern Witch, by Debora Geary, is not at all what I expected. It was much more than a fantasy story. What a delightful read. This book is filled with fun, adventure, magic, and heart. Lauren is a successful, well liked Chicago realtor. While grocery shopping online, she is sucked into a strange chat room, where a conversation with witches in California ensues. They tell her she was discovered by a special tracking code they placed online to find other witches. Lauren is sure there's a flaw in the code. She isn't a witch-is she? The California witches send Jamie, a handsome witch trainer, to detect Lauren's possible powers. With the support of Jamie and his extended witch-family, her world becomes filled with witches, lessons, and magic spells. In a whirlwind of life altering discoveries, only two things calm her spinning mind-her best friend, Nat, and several pints of Ben and Jerry's ice cream. There are many fabulous characters in this story, but my favorite is Aervyn, Jamie's four-year-old witchling nephew. Somehow, Aervyn's personality and warmth emanates from the pages of this story and grasps my heart. What did I expect A Modern Witch to be about? Well, I assumed a bewitching romance would blossom and be nourished by magic and mystery. I was way off the mark. Yes, the story touches on each of those points, but the roots go much deeper. As this company of modern witches became more familiar, I began to feel a part of their non-conventional family of magical people. I enjoyed spending time with them, and can't wait for the following books in this series to come out! [Book 2: A Hidden Witch-late summer 2011, and book 3: A Reckless Witch-the holidays 2011.]

I loved this book! I smiled, I cried, and I laughed out loud. What a fun, light read and guaranteed to turn the biggest frown into a smile. Loved the witches, man witches (no warlocks) and witchlings.

Once I slogged thru the first chapters I began to love a new world. Give this one time to develop in your mind's eye it is worth the hike.

What an entertaining read. I really enjoyed this book. The author has an interesting way of including chat room dialogue in her story line. The characters are well drawn out without an overload of information. I would recommend this read to those who love to read about the subject of magic. "Enjoyable, a page turner and I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book of the series."

I really loved this story. It captured my attention from the first word and held it to the very end. I love cleverness of the magical situations that this new modern witch faces and how adeptly she handles it. I also loved the humaniness of all the characters which made you root for their futures precog or not.

What would you do if as an adult, you suddenly discover you were a witch? That's what happened to Lauren when she was pulled from her on-line grocery shopping into a witches chatroom and discovers the participants are convinced she is a witch in need of training. The author has developed a great group of characters in this book, incorporating witchcraft with modern computer technology. Definitely an enjoyable read, and looking forward to the next book in this series.

Do you like all the new vampire/werewolf books that are on the market? Oh you know, like Twilight, Vampire Diaries and such? Well this book kicks all their butts. I know - don't judge a book by it's cover, but look at that cover! It pulled me right in, I have a bunch of stuff I was supposed to read first, but I just had to check it out. I figured I'd read a few pages and then do what I needed to do. It sucked me right in. I literally couldn't put it down. My poor kids. I love all the characters, Nell a mama witch with I think 5 kids. Aervyn is the youngest at 4 and he is a MOST powerful witchling. Then her brother, Jamie is one of a set of triplets and a great witch trainer. Sophie is an earth witch with a great website, and her website is the reason Nell writes the summoning spell that finds Lauren in Chicago. Jamie is sent to retrieve Lauren and while he is hot there are no sparks. But don't be turned off, sparks do fly in this book. When Jamie gets Lauren to Berkley to meet his family, she falls in love with everyone, Nell's 3 girls, Aunt Jennie who becomes her trainer and Moira - an old Irish witch who lives in Nova Scotia. This novel works. The characters are realistic and engaging, the plot is strong and there aren't really any weak points in the story. The only thing I didn't like was that it ended. This is a group of witches that make you want to keep reading about them. I hear there is a 2nd novel coming soon. I can't wait to review it...no really, I can't wait! Come on Debora Geary!

A Modern Witch by Debora Geary is a fun light hearted read. I enjoyed this witch story that did not have vampires and werewolves in it. This was about Lauren, a real estate agent that was accidentally pulled into a chat room for witches. She does not think that she has any powers until she is visited by a really handsome guy named Jamie. This is a "coming into your powers" story but isn't about a kid reaching puberty and discovering his powers. I read it straight through. There are a lot of really fun characters and I would like to see another book to continue the story. This is a fun romance and you'll love a four year old boy that makes a surprise appearance.
