Overview

A chance meeting...

My name is Liliana Delgado. Life didn't turn out the way I'd ever hoped it would. I got pregnant at 14. Same year my mom got diagnosed with MS. Dad bailed on us and my life felt like it suddenly started to spiral out of control. I'm 21 now, I go to college, I work hard, trying to make something of myself. I wasn't supposed to be at that burlesque bar Valentine's Day. I wasn't supposed to meet Ryan Cosgrove, but I did. And now nothing will ever be the same.

Love born from pain...

My name is Ryan. I'm a retired Marine, an MMA fighter, and when I was younger something terrible happened to me. Life is hard and I'm so tired of pretending its not. I'm in a burlesque bar, drowning my sorrows, trying to shut out the demons breathing down my neck always reminding me I'm not good enough. Then I see her and something inside of me- something I'd thought long dead- stirs to life. I wonder... can she save me? I hope she can, because I don't think I can save myself.

This is our moment...

Meet the Author

Marie Hall has always had a dangerous fascination for creatures that go bump in the night. And mermaids. And of course fairies. Trolls. Unicorns. Shapeshifters. Vampires. Scottish brogues. Kilts. Beefy arms. Ummm... Bad boys! Especially the sexy ones.

On top of that she's a confirmed foodie, she nearly went to culinary school and then figured out she could save a ton of money if she just watched food shows religiously! She's a self-proclaimed master chef, certified deep sea dolphin trainer, finder of leprechaun's gold at the end of the rainbow, and rumor has it she keeps the Troll King locked away in her basement. All of which is untrue, however, she does have an incredibly active imagination and loves to share her crazy thoughts with the world!

    A Moment by Marie Hall
    The Moment Series Book 1
Ryan Cosgrove is a man with demons. The biggest night of their haunting is on Valentines Day and it has once again arrived. This year he’s tired of fighting them, at twenty-five he’s been fighting this battle for fifteen years. He’s made the decision this will be the last year. Then the unexpected happens, a green eyed beauty enters his life and she’s determined to save him.

Liliana Delgado has had quite a hard life. Pregnant at a young age, an autistic son, her mother is ill and more. She has chosen not to date in the seven years since her son was born. The one night she agrees to go out with Alex, only as friends, her life changes. Lili likes to try and save people and Alex’s cousin Ryan is definitely in need of saving.

This story is intense at times. It is worth reading but don't go into it thinking it's a warm and fuzzy romance. You'd be disappointed. There is definitely romance but the road to love is definitely an unkept back road, bumpy with plenty of deep ruts. Ryan had something really bad happen when he was young and he’d rather bury it then tell Lili the truth. Only when you bury things that aren’t dead, they find a way to always come back. Book two in the series will be Alex's story, Right Now.

This was a really great story. Very fleshed out characters and dealt with some serious subject matter in a well done way. I really enjoyed the characters and the story line.

There are some editing issues, but not so many that you can't overlook them.

    A Moment Book Review

The author did an excellant job tackling serious issues in this novel. Issues such as rape, teen pregnancy, medical conditions are severe to all that are affected. I felt every emotion each character was going through, I cried, laughed, anger, and I was happy with the way the story ended. This novel really touched my soul.

This romance is far from a fairy tale, and yet it is full of real emotions.

In an instant, everything changed. Fatality or destiny are playing good or bad pranks to get you on the path laid out for you.
Believe it or not but how many times have your hear strangers say: "it had to happen", "it was written" ... Fate ? Or coincidences ?
Here the author focuses on the intersecting roads. Moments that make the difference.

The characters have difficult, traumatic lives and are trying to fight with the cards dealt always advancing to become a better person. Of course, sometimes the demons and agonizing fears resurface and take over. But there is always someone out there for you.
Certainly, having been burned by the harshness of life, it leads people to be more suspicious, more cautious but the only thing that one can not control, it is love.

I liked that the characters are dented by life. This gives depth and relief to this reading, may be a bit heavy on the sad emotions but it's a beautiful love story.
Despite strong and poignant subjects, pity has no place in this story. And it's a good thing!

I also liked that the author speaks openly about autism, suicide, illness without falling into excessive pathos but just to make the picture real and plausible. Life is not always a fairy tale. Princes and princesses sometimes come with emotional baggages but that does not stop them to try to be happy.

    Worth every penny!

This book is about more than just one difficult topic. It brings to light the ugly realty many people have had to live with and many others who just couldn't. It is well written and full of characters that are easy to love. Im looking forward to book 2.

I loved this story!! Liliana & Ryan are very real, very relatable characters, both coping with past & present issues that hit home with me. Their poignant, heart-felt story pulled me in from the beginning as they alternately told it from their personal perspectives in turn, and it was an emotional roller coaster ride to the end, love being the definitive. Well done, Marie!! I would absolutely recommend this book.

In a story that is vastly different from previous reads from her,  Marie Hall brings us a contemporary, New Adult story that is romantic, heart wrenching, difficult and fully geared to readers who are over 18.

In each of the stories that I have read from Marie, she imbues her characters with such lifelike qualities and issues that they literally could walk among us, and probably do.  This is a twist, in which she deals with some very serious elements for her characters, and yet each is presented with care: allowing the reader to slowly digest the information and start to develop empathy for the characters before the secrets are uncovered.

Both Lili and Ryan are likable characters: Lili is far more sympathetic and easy to relate to.  Often I was relying on her innate sense that there was something and someone worth knowing in Ryan to not want to skip over his sections of the story.  I’m glad that her belief in Ryan kept me reading, his backstory and the secrets he held deep within are just waiting to burst out and bring forward a resolution.  This story demanded that I read through to the end, even the darker elements were treated with detail and care, with character voices and reactions being realistic and even refreshing to read for those who may have been in similar situations.

This is the start of a series of “moments” in time for characters – although I do hope that we return to Lili and Ryan’s story, the conclusion was satisfactory and did tie up any hopeful questions I would have had for their ongoing relationship.   Certainly a book for adults, the story is emotional and difficult to read at times, but situations are real, gritty and possibly relevant to many readers today.

I received an eBook copy from the author for purpose of honest review as part of the Indie Authors Rock promotion at I am, Indeed. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
