Have you ever watched a cat stare up at a wall, tracking something's movements-- something invisible that sent shivers down your spine? Did it seem as if your pet were able to sense dark shadows lurking where the veil between worlds and reality thins? That's precisely where the idea for the Netherwalker Series came from for CK Dawn. Award winning author, coffee loving gamer girl, and Sci-fi enthusiast, CK Dawn has always loved to snuggle up with her cat Hagrid (the shadow-seer) and read. With a nudge of encouragement from her lil' sis, she found writing fantasy stories was even better than just reading about them. So, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away CK let her unique tale of knights and Camelot dancing in her mind take form and fly with Cloak of Shadows, her award winning debut novel. In writing, CK has truly found her bliss and now writes her enticing, mystical fantasies in the witching hours with Hagrid by her side. Stay tuned, because there will be a lot more to come in the Netherwalker Series. Seriously, the story has only just begun. CK loves connecting with readers and hopes to hear from you soon. This was a very interesting short read. A Neophyte’s Tale is the prequel to CK Dawn’s Cloak of Shadows. I have not read Cloak of Shadows but after reading A Neophyte’s Tale, I definitely want to. A Neophyte’s Tale tells the story of Abbey Thorn from present day with glimpses of a very different past. There are hints throughout that there is more to Abbey than what we are seeing but it is never spelled out for us. This is a great lead in to Cloak of Shadows, which I believe more will be explained about Abbey’s next chapter in her life. This book definitely got me excited to read Cloak of Shadows!

This is a fairly short story that I’d describe as a peek into the life of Abigail Thorne.  Novellas and short stories take a lot to impress me because I rarely feel I get super connected with any character quickly enough.  This completely goes against that.  I’m caught up in the emotions of quite a few of the characters even aside from Abbey.  I get a real sense of personality from each character brought into the story.  I attribute this connection to the very real feelings and confusion that Abbey has.  The end has me very intrigued for the continuation of the story.  While this didn’t have as much of the fantasy element in it I do think it will be a valuable asset to a series involving Abbey and the world she’s a part of.  I’m curious to see the impact of her past on her future and what will happen.  I highly recommend this, especially for anyone that might be hesitant to start a new series. This eGalley was provided free from the author through Good Tales Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affected my opinion and I was compensated in no other manner.

I loved this. The story is a quick read that is well written and loads of fun. Abbey's tale is sad, but not tragic. She learns there is more to her life than just the unfortunate hand she's been dealt.  CK Dawn gives us a nice sample of her imaginative Netherwalker series and this short story shows us a glimpse of that complex world. I cannot wait to read more from this author. More, please!

This is a short story that lets' us see what went on prior to Cloak of Shadows. Abbey is a young girl who has a horrible life after her step father moves out. Her mother is addicted to drugs and alcohol and poor Abbey barely  gets a meal let alone a place to sleep every night. One night Abbey starts to hear a voice telling her that power is coming. She has no idea what it means until she gets startled one night by a shadow then all things start to make some sense although Abbey thinks she is losing her mind. One rainy night after Abbey finds her mother  she is awoken to what will become of her. Very sad story but very enlightening one also if you have already read Cloak of Shadows. Abbey is to be a Hunter.  I was gifted this book for my honest review and I can honestly say I loved it.
