Her new book, a flimsy little paperback called A New Baby at KoKo Bear's House, is an illustrated story for parents and very young children who are expecting a new sibling. Everything about this is pat, from the predictable story of KoKo's experiences during the pregnancy, birth and homecoming, to the uninspired illustrations, to the advice for parents which is displayed at the bottom of each page ("You can skim these silently while you and your child read about KoKo, " Lansky says in her introduction). I found this format-kids' on top, parents' on bottom-gimmicky. As a mother in this situation I would much prefer to read a with my child without distraction, and give an adult the time it deserves.
