Overview

For fans who have witnessed Celine Dion's sold-out extravaganza at the famed Caesars Palace, A New Day…Live in Las Vegas is a great reminder of why the singer is one of the best in the business. The disc also provides a front-row seat for those who haven't had the guilty pleasure of attending Dion's Cirque du Soleil–inspired show. Proving that her powerful pipes are suited to just about any genre, Dion starts the show with a soothing rendition of Nat King Cole's "Nature Boy" and closes with an understated-yet-stirring version of Louis Armstrong's poignant "What a Wonderful World" -- but not before launching into soulful renderings of Etta James's "At Last" and Stevie Wonder's "I Wish." And the French-Canadian diva also does an exquisite job with her own hits, including the tear-jerking ballad "Because You Loved Me," the upbeat "I'm Alive," and the showstopping "My Heart Will Go On." There's every indication that Dion's career will also go on, and as a teaser until her next studio release, the disc includes two new, mid-tempo songs: the country-tinged "You and I" and the gospel-lite "Ain't Gonna Look the Other Way." A New Day…Live in Las Vegas is an essential addition to the collection of any Dion enthusiast.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Rob Theakston
After two studio records, an intensive media campaign for a large automobile company, a new perfume fragrance, and a successful tour and residency in Las Vegas, one would reason that Celine Dion is long overdue for yet another sabbatical after a rather intensive 18-month span. However, this is not to be the case. This live document of the Las Vegas show drives home the point that Celine is one of the most potent entertainers in adult contemporary music. A smattering of her greatest hits ("My Heart Will Go On," "Because You Loved Me," "It's All Coming Back to Me Now") is mixed with vocal standards (a rather enchanting rendition of Etta James' brilliant "At Last," "What a Wonderful World," "I've Got the World On a String"), bringing a balanced, well-conceived program that highlights the dynamics and versatility in Dion's voice. She's equally as comfortable in high-tempo numbers chock-full of her signature vocal acrobatics as she is in quiet, contemplative moments. It's an ideal souvenir for those who have experienced the magic with their own ears and eyes. And while it's not the most definitive document of Dion's career, it certainly is a stirring testament to her accomplishments as the standard to whom most vocalists aspire.

I had the pleasure last August of sitting in the 9th row of the Coleseum of Caesar's Palace to see Celine's show. Listening to this CD brought goosebumps and wonderful memories of that evening. Although some of the numbers she did that night are not on this recording, the ones that are included are top rate. Her rendition of "I"m Alive" reminded me of being on my feet, clapping with the rest of the audience. I'm looking forward to the DVD coming out this fall.

My husband and i went to see Celine in Vegas in September, i was just so overwhelmed be be there in the 11th row. She truly is a wonderful singer and wanted the show to go on all night, and would dearly love to to again and again.. Celine may you continue to sing forever more..

I saw her in Las Vegas on T.V and I thought she did a fabulous job especially since the creator of Cirque du Soliel helped create it. She is a phenomenal singer!!!

I haven't had the opportunity to enjoy the live show in person. The CD gave me a glimpse of what a great performer Celine is. Hopefully I'll be able to see the show live and fully experience this outstanding entertainer. I'm sure I'll be blown away just as I was with the CD.
