Although Hucknall tries to resurrect soul in his own original songs, he's most successful at evoking the past, notably on Simply Red's second number one, a remake of the Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes classic "If You Don't Know Me by Now."

When this cd came out in 1989, I purchased it and spent endless hours listening to the heart in the music. A friend called and said, "YOU JUST HAVE TO COME OVER and HEAR THIS PHENOMENAL CD I just got! My boyfriend and I went over and it was the same cd we had just purchased. My boyfriend died in 1994 of an Aneurysm and each time I listen to this copulation of music, I feel he is here with me.
