A New Standardby Steve Tyrell
Although he's achieved most of his success as a producer and songwriter, Steve Tyrell's debut album A New Standard chooses not to showcase his skills at the latter, instead offering Tyrell's vocal versions of twelve standards (including three that appeared in the film Father of the Bride Part II). They're not really exceptional, but they are well done; the main problem is that these songs have been done before so many times, and while pleasant, Tyrell's versions don't really offer anything new. Still, it is nice to hear musicians like Toots Thielemans, Joe Sample, and Harry "Sweets" Edison.

If you're an old duffer like me, you will love these old standards. If your a young person and want a break from rock, rap and hip-hop, listen to this one. Steve Tyrell sounds somewhat like a young Ray Charles. He is great, and what a cast of musicians. Classic love songs sung and played by superb musicians.
Steve Tyrell always brings a smile to my face when I hear his music. He is simply the best I have heard in a long time. Harry Connick used to do the same thing until he changed his style of music. I want to hear more from Steve Tyrell
Thoroughly enjoyed by me, the people who work with me, my family, and our friends. It will be included with many of the Christmas gifts we send out this year. I was surprised to read the review at this site which found the release to be nothing special. The selections were just right.
I first heard of Steve Tyrell's music on a local radio station here in Florida. Fell in love with it immediately. I know others have made these songs before, but his is soooo good. Bought the CD as soon as I heard
sigh.. how can you not love this CD?? love songs that are mellow and take you back to another era.. I played the whole cd at my wedding and everyone wanted to know where I got such a treasure..
I listened to this at B & N and thought it was terrific. Steve will never be confused with Pavorrati, but he makes it easy to listen to, very enjoyable. I have practically worn it out.
I worked with Steve for 3 years before he had the belief in himself to make this album. The man knows everything there is to know about record making! He is the real thing! His delivery is perfect! His voice is unique!
This is the BEST cd i've heard in a long time. it's sexy , soulful, inspiring & entertaining!! I reccommend it to anyone who wants to smile and sing and feel romance all at the same time. It is for everyone, anytime, anyplace, you'll love it!More Mr Tyrell, please!
This is a SUPERB interpretation of many of the beautiful old love songs we hear far too infrequently. While Tyrell's voice isn't as polished as some, it's ''natural grit'' makes up for that in creating some warm, intimate dinner music I'll play and replay.
I first heard this CD at the Barnes and Noble store and bought it on the spot. It always makes me feel good to hear it. I've recommended it to many friends. My four year old daughter even sings some of the songs with me. I hope there will be more from Mr. Tyrell soon.
I heard this CD in the local Barnes & Noble and took 2 copies of it home with me - one for me and one for a Christmas present for my mother! My husband heard it for the first time, said it made him feel like he was sitting in a piano bar, enjoying a brandy and a fine cigar! Now if only I could get the CD back from him!!!!!!!!! Please, Mr. Tyrell, release more!
He sounds old fashioned, and he covers songs done many times before by better singers, but this album is infectious. I play it all the time. Please Steve, give us another album.
My most played disc, by a l-o-n-g way. Steve sounds like he's singing just for me. And the orchestrations and playing are marvellous and swinging. It's infectious, too: countless friends have spread the word. Ten stars for style. Can't wait to buy the new one!
I first fell in love with Steve Tyrell's music in the movie Father of the Bride, after watching the movie, I closely watched the credits to see who sang some of the songs, this was very difficult, for the writing is very tiny in the credits, after I got the name Steve Tyrell I asked my local music store they never heard of him. Quite some time afterward I was watching Martha Stewart and they did a story on Steve Tyrell so I loged on my computer and found the CD, ordered it and waited patiently for it to arrive. His music is great for everyone from 20 years old to 100 years old, purchase it for any loved one and they will be truly greatful.
I love this CD. We used each song at our wedding reception last Fall. What a great voice and style... Enjoy
Steve Tyrell is a natural. Where has he been all our lives? This has to be one of the most romantic albums of all time. I can't get enough of it. Parties, dinners, romantic evenings with that special someone, or just alone on a moonlit drive; there is no better way to ease the soul than A New Standard. You don't know what your missing. :)
I saw this guy on ktla news on the morning of Valentines day. What a blessing. I scored two of his cd's. One for my wife and one for my 75 yr. old Mom. Mom has literally worn her's out and the wife won't let me borrow her's. Steve Tyrell has great style!
