Overview

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER is the story of the "unsinkable" Titanic. "The ship that God himself couldn't sink" was built by the White Star Line and billed as the largest and most glamorous ship in the world. Her maiden voyage was an event attracting some of society's finest, including members of the Astor family.

Gliding through a calm sea, disdainful of all obstacles, the Titanic brushed an iceberg in mid-Atlantic. Less than three hours later, early in the morning of April 15, 1912, she disappeared below the surface taking with her 1500 souls. It was a disaster that rocked the world.

THE NIGHT LIVES ON was prompted by the 1985 discovery of the Titanic's hulk on the ocean's floor. Walter Lord discusses the enduring public fascination with this tragedy.
