Overview

"A Noble Spirit" presents common issues in the lives of small-town America people in this story of loss, love, estrangement and reconciliation. Centered on a newly renovated horse farm, a teen girl named Mandy finds friendship and encouragement from Noble, a 20-year-old Thoroughbred who is isolated from other horses - the way she feels from other girls at school - because of a weakness. He is blind in his right eye. Her dad loses his truck driving job; her friend Anne has a single mom with panic disorder; the farm manager is a wounded war veteran with an amazing way with horses; the horse farm's owner has a mysterious past; the ER doctor keeps a sad secret; and a local businessman from Mexico has some of his family here illegally. It's a story with someone every reader will know -- in their family, workplace or community. How these people deal with the issues and how friendships develop will warm your heart and lift your spirits.

Meet the Author

Joanne M. Anderson is an author, writer and the managing editor for New River Valley Magazine. Her first book, Small-Town Restaurants in Virginia (1998) is in its second edition (2004). Solomon Says Observations of an Innkeeper Dog was published in 2001, and A Noble Spirit, her first fiction, was released in 2012. She has written hundreds of business and magazine articles. She acquired her first horse, Cash (also in the book) when she was 58 and knew nothing about horses. Noble came a year later, and her horsemanship journey began. She herself has found great encouragement and strength from Noble, and she wrote the book to help others with self-esteem and other common issues. Her inspiration can be every reader's.
