Meet the Author

Ann Somerville grew up in one of Australia’s prettiest small cities. In 1989, she left Australia with a BA and a burning ambition to see more of the world and its people, and to discover this ‘culture’ thing people kept telling her about. In 2006, she returned home to Southeast Queensland with two more degrees, an English husband, and a staggering case of homesickness, vowing never to leave Australia again.

Her long, plot-driven fiction featuring gay and bisexual characters has been professionally published, although copious free full length stories and novels are also available on her website. She blogs about writing, publishing, her life and many shiny distracting things.

This was a short pleasent read of a prince trying to find true love of someone who can love him for who he is and not what he looks like. Its a little classic tell of beauty and the beast ...just instead of a man and women, the prince is gay...=) Only reason why im giving it this rating is because i feel like at the end, the prince didnt even learn anything.

*NO Spoilers* In a genre full of "homo-angst" (i.e., closet cases, family estrangement, DADT drama - all of which I love), it's nice to run across a story of high-silliness. Somerville knows what her short story is: a fairy tale. And before reading, the reader should know that too. The tale unfolds as a reboot of "Beauty and the Beast," containing hilarious, parenthetical asides and one-liners that caused me to have a grin on my face through the entire (very quick) read. At spots, I even burst out laughing. It's light, silly fun. Okay. One spoiler: The gay version of the "beast" is a prince that is turned old. That alone, in a gay culture of youth and beauty, struck me as funny.

Not good

It is free, silly, often ridiculous, and about gay love. Not my cup of tea (really really ridiculous) but I'm sure there are others out there who will enjoy this short story. :)

This book is an odd love story, but not quite to my taste.

I felt that it ended with somethings that were left undone.

An interesting, well-written short story which is a combination of both old-world, and some modern sensibilities, and a story with a good sense of humor, this adding to its readability.

The prince did learn somethin he learned the people who truly knew him would love him no matter what he looked like. This book while not the best is still worth reading.
