When Meri Sinclair inherited Dangerous Reads, she didn’t just get a bookshop. She inherited a legacy. It’s Danger Cove’s only bookstore, and her grandmother had made sure that it's a warm and friendly places for readers of all ages.

Determined to get off on the right foot, Meri has organized a series of author readings, starting off with Cal Montague, a Danger Cove native who grew up to become a solid B-list actor, and his tell-all his memoirs, Tales I Shouldn’t Tell. Only the actor turns out to be a difficult diva, and before the inaugural event can even start, Meri finds the guest of honor in the alley—shot dead. Turns out someone else thought Cal shouldn't be telling tales, too.

With motive and opportunity, the police have Meri in their sights. To save her business and her own skin, Meri turns to her small staff of part-time employees for help. Along with some assistance from Danger Cove’s hot new veterinarian, Meri, sets out to help the Danger Cove police—whether they appreciate it or not—before the murderer returns for a sequel.

Meet the Author

Elizabeth Ashby was born and raised in Danger Cove and now uses her literary talent to tell stories about the town she knows and loves. Ms. Ashby has penned several Danger Cove Mysteries, which are published by Gemma Halliday Publishing. While she does admit to taking some poetic license in her storytelling, she loves to incorporate the real people and places of her hometown into her stories. She says anyone who visits Danger Cove is fair game for her poisoned pen, so tourists beware! When she's not writing, Ms. Ashby enjoys gardening, taking long walks along the Pacific coastline, and curling up with a hot cup of tea, her cat, Sherlock, and a thrilling novel.

Ellie Ashe has always been drawn to jobs where she can tell stories—journalist, lawyer, and now writer. Writing quirky romantic mysteries is how she gets the "happily ever after" that so often is lacking in her day job. When not writing, you can find her with her nose in a good book, watching far too much TV, or trying out new recipes on unsuspecting friends and family. She lives in Northern California with her husband and two cats, all of whom worry when she starts browsing the puppy listings on petfinder.com.

This is the 10th Danger Cove book and I have loved them all! The great thing about these is you don't really have to read them in order. This is the first book for Dangerous Reads and I really loved it. Meri inherits the book store from her grandmother and it could not have come at a better time. However, during her first author book signing, the author is murdered! Meri becomes a suspect and she does her best to find out whodunit. A lot of times when the main character is trying to find the killer, they do so in hookie ways. This is not one of them. Everything Meri did was believable. This book is very well written and I can not wait to read them next one!

Meri was no stranger to Dangerous Reads,  and when she inherited the local bookstore, she wanted to keep her grandmothers legacy going.  She decided to stir up enthusiasm for reading by introducing the locals to various authors and their works.  This turned out to be a short lived enterprise when her first author arrives at the store, only to disappear from view, and be found murdered.  The plot thickens as persons of interest reveal their connections and dealings with the deceased.  Meri gets involved and lends a hand to the police in an effort to preserve the good name of her store, as well as clearing herself!  With the help of her loyal staff, she is able to navigate all the curves that she is thrown in her investigation and survive intact.  Great reading, always enjoy the business owners of Danger Cove.....keep them coming!!

I enjoyed this book partly because it was about a bookstore – and I love books. The plot was interesting and the characters very believable. Meri Sinclair inherits a bookstore “Dangerous Reads” from her grandmother and is determined to continue her grandmother’s loving legacy. Meri plans on hosting various authors, for book signings, at her bookstore. Although the first author was raised in Danger Cove, he has developed into a very unpleasant man who has written a “tell all” book. Unfortunately, for Meri, the author does not make it to the signing, but is found dead. Meri gets involved in the investigation as she tries to make sure that she is not targeted by the investigating detective. Meri is also concerned for the reputation of her bookstore as an author cancels plans to do a book signing at the store due to the murder investigation. This was a pleasant read, although at times a bit confusing for me, but at the end everything was made clear. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. A very nice cozy mystery, no graphic violence or explicit sex. (by paytonpuppy)

Miranda (Meri) recently moved back to Danger Cove after her grandmother passed away. She’s intent on keeping up the family business. And, the story begins. Thinks that having guest authors come to the store for readings and book signings would be a great addition to the bookstore. Well, until….. This book is a great book to read during the summer. It grabs you immediately with the “whodunit” mystery and keeps you on the ride until the mystery is solved. I found myself rooting for Meri, the underdog. I like that the authors Elizabeth Ashby Andy Ellie Ashe started a book that is like a series in other books. Danger Cove is a small town that is featured in other authors’ book so you feel like you are really visiting the place. I personally recommend this book. It’s fun to read with suspense and “murda”. I am anxious to know what happens after the first book has ended.

What a wonderful book! From the first chapter one is pulled into the story. Meri Sinclair returns home when she inherits her grandmother’s bookstore. When trying to promote the bookstore by inviting authors, things get a little out of hand. On to finding out who killed a guy returning to his hometown after making it big in showbiz, with a few skeletons in the closet. Who is the murderer and why??? I anxiously await the next book by this author.
