    A Reality Lesson in Writing

I've been writing for a about 15 years and never managed to really get myself phyched up to WRITE. Short stories, unfinished tales, quick poems... I have a stack of paper a foot tall of unfinished ideas and half-assed attempts.

This is not the first book I've purchased to try to get myself started towards novel writing... but it may be the last. The fresh realism of Doughty's instruction has me wanting to read chapters ahead and has me writing in a more focused manner than I ever have. Perhaps I've just reached the stage in my life where I can strive to achieve this goal - but the initiative to get off my butt (or more specifically, to sit my butt down) and do it came from this book.

    Interesting Approach

Transitioned a newspaper column on writing to a self-help book, its an interesting approach of short snippets and assignments. Don't get your hopes up about the links though, they don't work.
