Gr 1-3-Rather than beginning with Eisenhower's birth, Adler opens with a description of the June 19, 1945, parade in New York City at which the general was given a medal naming him "the victorious Commander in Chief of Allied Armies in defense of human liberty." The book adequately explores his youth and family life, acceptance to West Point, and marriage. There is little about the president's army career. Throughout, Adler praises Eisenhower's accomplishments; thus, the book lacks balance. However, for the most part, his story is well told and interesting.
