Welcome to Blessings, Georgia, the best small town in the South.
No, there aren't many secrets kept there. And yes, everybody knows your business. But when bad things happen, good people come to your rescue.

Growing up in a troubled foster home, Mercy Dane knew she could never rely on anyone but herself. She's used to giving her all to people who don't give her a second glance, so when she lands in Blessings, Georgia, she's flabbergasted when the town opens its arms to her. She never dreamed she'd ever find family or friends—or a man who looks at her as if she hung the stars.

Police Chief Lon Pittman is getting restless living in sleepy little Blessings. But the day Mercy Dane roars into his life on the back of a motorcycle, practically daring him to pull her over, he's lost. There's something about Mercy's tough-yet-vulnerable spirit that calls to Lon, and he will do anything in his power to make her realize that home isn't just where the heart is—home is where their heart is.

Sala’s clunky fourth Blessings, Georgia series (after Saving Jake) combines second chances and homespun sweetness in a pithy story. Mercy Dane has spent the majority of her life alone, bouncing from one foster home to another while learning how to bake tasty treats and rely on herself. A Christmas good deed catapults her from the big city of Savannah, Ga., to the small town of Blessing, where she finds much more than holiday cheer. Police chief Lon Pittman never forgot the anonymous young woman he met seven years ago on the worst night of her life. Imagine his surprise when the leather-clad, motorcycle-riding woman who blows into town to donate her rare-type blood and save the life of one of the local nurses turns out to be the one woman who was never far from his thoughts. The story is rife with clichés. The essence of small-town life and the joys of chosen family shine through, and glimpses into the thoughts and lives of the secondary characters give the plot some depth and a sense of continuity, but this still feels like Sala phoned it in. A very traditional, chaste, contemporary romance with an emphasis on faith, family, and community. The fourth novel in Sala's (Saving Jake, 2016, etc.) Blessings, Georgia series offers an original meet-cute when the heroine's motorcycle is pulled over by the police chief as she races from Savannah to small-town Blessings to donate her rare blood to a car accident victim. Mercy Dane was raised by the foster care system in near poverty, making her self-reliant and resilient. When she learns that the recipient of her donated blood is her long-lost older sister, Mercy can't refuse the offer to move to Blessings to explore her newly discovered relations. Descriptions of Mercy as tough and resistant to relationships don't mesh with her tendency to sob when insulted or her willingness to pull up her roots and move an hour away to live in a stranger's house. Lon is a more consistent, if bland, character: faithful and honorable, he reassures the skittish Mercy, "If you don't quit me, I can promise I'll never quit you." Blessings is populated by the usual stock characters, including a trio of petty, jealous women, a lonely salon owner who lives for gossip, and a stern judge. While small-town romance is an inherently nostalgic subgenre, Sala pushes the plausibility envelope. A place where Italian-Americans are called "foreigners" and where black leather and a bike helmet mark a woman as an outsider may seem more bizarre and unsettling than attractive to many readers. Sala's fans will enjoy returning to a picture-perfect Southern town with wholesome American values and a few bad apples, but others may be put off by its predictable geography.

I won a copy of this book from Goodreads giveaways. I was not required to give a favorable review. All thoughts are my own. This is a beautiful story of family. Maya was raised in the foster system and aged out and had to find her way. She had to become tough and still be a nice person. She was sick of people telling her how and when to do things. So she was a straight shooter. The one things that she did give back is she is a register blood giver because of her rare blood type. She works in a bar and the man who runs it is like her dad to her. One Christmas Eve she goes home after a long shift and is sleeping when the phone goes of they are in need of her blood. Little did she know that, that call was going to change her life forever. She had to drive to Blessing, GA from Savannah on her motorcycle. And when she is almost gets there she had to get around a car accident. She takes her bike through town with a cop on her butt. She ends up meeting up with what she finds out is her sister who needs her blood. And the cop is someone who helped one night when she was in need. She now has a family and a new home. I cried through most of it, but is was a wonderful read. Never judged someone by the cover because you never know what is underneath.

However, i am disappointed with this book because Ms. Sala wrote that the heroine had sex with her neighbor a few minutes after meeting him. Mercy had a hard life and she needed comfort after her apartment was robbed. Her neighbor invited her to sleep on his couch. He is a good guy but mercy doesnt know that..he suggests sex and she gives in. She could have slept on his couch, left the next morning without the cheap act.

'A Piece of My Heart' by Sharon Sala is book Four in the "Blessings, Georgia" series. This is the story of Mercy Dane and Police Chief Lon Pittman. I haven't yet read the other books in this series so for me this was a standalone book. Wow...this was such a sweet and emotional book! Will a little bit of a second chance at love theme. Just loved it. Mercy has had a hard life alone and feels that no one is there to stay...so she doesn't try to form attachments. She just goes it alone. There was only one time that she gave in to letting someone get close and that was just for the night after a robbery. Now years later she is working at a bar with her still hard as nails attitude. It is once again Christmas alone but she get a call that her rare blood is need after a car accident putting that person in dire need. Mercy goes the hour and half drive to Blessing Georgia where her life start to change. This is one book you can't put down!*A Book Obsessed Chicks Review Team Selection*

This was one heck of a emotional roller coaster, the characters were great and I absolutely loved Mercy, as well as Lon. Mercy is a women who finally gets to live her own life, and make her own choices. After aging out of the foster system, she has a job with people she actually enjoys being with. Her life has been filled with one hit after another. But after getting a call about an emergency blood transfusion her life may actually be turning around for the better. Now she has family, friends, and a new chance for a beginning. And when she happens to run into an old one night stand things become a little.... different then the norm. Lon Pittman is sheriff and has been putting his all into his job. But when the women he couldn't get off his mind from 7 years ago comes roaring into his blissful town he knows things are going to change. Maybe even make his life a little more exciting, give him something new to look forward to besides his job. This was a great read, that I will admit it got me to cry a bit at the end. It is a HEA with a bit of Christianity thrown in but it is not a major factor to the overall book. I would highly recommend this contemporary romance that revolves around the belief in family, new beginnings, second chances, and not judging a book by the cover (not talking about the actual book cover lol). I found this a great read that I did not want to put down. ~A Book Obsessed Chicks Review Team Selection.

A Piece of My Heart by Sharon Sala is the 4th book in her wonderful Blessings, Georgia series. Having read and enjoyed the earlier books, I thought that A Piece of My Heart was the best one yet. An awesome story all the way through. Mercy Dane, our heroine, grew up in various foster homes, not really having a family. She works in a bar as a waitress to be able to pay her bills, and drives a motor cycle. One night, she gets a call to give her rare type blood to an accident victim in Blessings, Georgia. Lon Pittman is the Chief of Police in Blessings, and follows a blur passing by at high speed on a motor cycle. When he arrives at the hospital, he finds out why the need for speed. Once Lon sees Mercy, he recognizes her from a number of years ago, when he helped her; and they had a one night stand. Lon has not forgotten her, and immediately feels a rekindling of attraction to Mercy. The accident victim was Hope Talbot, who desperately needs blood to survive. Her husband and brother in law are in the waiting area, when they meet the women who is helping her. They both notice a tattoo on Mercy, and the resemblance to Hope, who lost her sister years before in the foster care system. Mercy becomes nervous when they ask her to submit a DNA test, and heads back to Savannah. In a short time, Mercy will discover that Hope is indeed her sister, and will return to Blessings. What follows is a beautiful emotional story line that will change Mercy’s life for the better. She will finally find herself with a family, and seeing Hope and Mercy meet again was very emotional. Love was something Mercy did not allow herself to feel, until she finds herself becoming more trusting and happy. The town of Blessings has also opened their heart to the women who saved Hope, and who also is a great baker, and thinks nothing of putting herself on the line when helping others. Lon and Mercy’s romance is fun and sweet, as they both fall in love quickly. Once Mercy accepts she is part of a family, with a new job she loves, she will openly accept Lon as the man she wants to spend her life with. There were a number of emotional moments, especially near the end that almost brought us to tears. This is a fabulous small town romance, a wonderful couple, and a sweet story line revolving around a young girl whose hard life changed dramatically. A Piece of My Heart was a wonderful read, written so very well by Sharon Sala.
