A Recommended Read by The Romance Reviews

A PLACE TO CALL HOME swept me up and took me on a sweet, satisfying ride. It's a love story with all the tenderness right alongside the reality. Home life isn't always apple pie and sunshine, sometimes it's stolen kisses while you do the dishes.

Hannah O'Leary has never stayed in one place long. She is a self-made woman who opens her own brunch-oriented restaurants, hires a manager and moves on to the next location. She's in town long enough to refurbish the old home into her newest eatery and be on her way, but first she must find a handyman.

Austin MacDevin is the best contractor around, just ask anyone. When he spots Ms. O'Leary hanging from a hole she's created in the ceiling, he knows he is in for trouble. But he's got three boys to feed and a crew to pay, so he's going to make this work even if he wants to kiss her as badly as he wants to kill her.

A PLACE TO CALL HOME was a satisfying full-length novel. I love how Christina James took the time and care to develop a serene Charleston for us to explore. It's the south the way I love it, full of grace and hospitality. The town and the secondary characters were as intriguing as Hannah and Austin "Mac" themselves, but it really was the two of them who kept me riveted.

I love how Mac is the old fashioned kind of man. He's raising his sons to open doors and say 'yes, ma'am'. It's Mac's same kind of charm that made me want to bat my eyelashes and steal this southern gentleman for myself. I mean really, the man cooks, cleans, raises three boys AND he wears a tool belt on a daily basis. What isn't to love?

For a southern gentleman, he knows how to cut loose in the bedroom. These two can't keep their hands off each other. Be ready. If you see 'southern gentleman' and think calm staid story, think again. I'd say the sex is extremely detailed and steamy, but not on the kinky side. Just on the I-can't-get-enough-of-you side.

There was a little suspense thrown in to the mix. Just a few little story lines to have us sitting up taller a few times, but on the whole, this was a love story about a family. The boys made it real. From broken bones to teenagers who are not being fooled by Ms. Hannah's sleepovers. They don't care as long as she keeps making breakfast. and desserts. As they say, the way to a man's heart is through his belly.

So for those of you needing a break from the novella and wanting a big ol' drink of sweet tea to quench your thirst, this is one to look into. I found A PLACE TO CALL HOME refreshing and enchanting. Enjoy!

What can I say about this story??? I have a lot to say about this story....To sum it up in 2 words....LOVED IT!!!!...What a wonderful change from the BDSM stories I read...Not that I'm complaining I totally love the BDSM stories I read...It's just this story along with the story "For the love of a woman" by Ms. Christina James was so heart warming....I cried, laughed, got heated with both anger and lust....I loved how wholesome the stories were....'For the love of a woman' deals with a single mom searching for love while raising her son and living her life day by day when a gorgeous stranger shows up on her doorstep....'A place to call home' is also a wonderful, heartwarming story....I love how with this story it is wrapped around a man with 3 young sons trying to run a successful business and raise his boys in a small town....and then the father (sexy father) saves a damsel in distress and falls helplessly in love....i love that these 2 stories involve the children and their feelings, thoughts....I totally recommend these stories to read and read and read and read...I am going to reread both these stories bc I absolutely loved them....The family values, the drama, the closeness and the love are soooo refreshing to read about.....These 2 stories should be made into 'Lifetime' movies....I would watch them over and over.....Just something to think about Ms. James.....Please continue with your brilliant writing Ms. James....More stories like these 2 and stories like your 'Operation series' (talk about holy hotness) are absolutely wonderful...I have added you to my LOOOONNNNGGGG list of authors/stories for future reads...

Hard Hearted Hannah meets Mac the Nice

Hannah O'Leary has learned a great deal in her young life, how to take care of herself, how to be successful and how to keep people at arms length, because it hurts less when you leave if your heart isn't involved. Austin (Mac) MacDevin knows all about hurt, he's been raising his three boys by himself for years and that just suits him fine, that is until a smart-mouthed, opinionated sexy woman drops out of the ceiling, literally.
Christina James has spun a tale that most of us can relate to from one perspective or another in this contemporary romance novel. She brings it to us with her narrative that's part construction worker, part southern gentleman and all smart-mouthed female. Her characters are the real stars of the show from Mac, to Hannah to Mac's sons and they will all endear themselves to the readers. The romance is sweet and a little bawdy so if that floats your boat, set sail, but not bawdy enough to put off the hard-core romance lover. The love scenes are visceral, descriptive and also a little on the naughty side so if you have timid sensibilities you'll need to skip over some parts. The story had a tendency to drag just a little in some parts, but it did not take away from my pure enjoyment of this lively, a little bit naughty and a lot of fun romance novel.
So if you like southern men and outspoken women with a little tang added to the recipe then you'll love this one.
