What if you had lived your whole life thinking you were normal? No, worse than normal – plain? What would happen if one of the most highly-trained and vicious assassins in the galaxy attacked you one warm summer's night? What would happen if you were thrust into an adventure with the galaxy's greatest heroic heart-throb? What would happen if a mysterious and ancient race appeared with one desire – to kill you? What would you do?

Jane grew up knowing one thing: she's nothing but normal. But then one little run-in with an assassin robot threatens to destroy everything she thought she knew about herself. Soon she finds herself with none other than Lucas Stone, the galaxy's number one pin up and hero. And together the two of them have to find out exactly who Jane is and what's after her before the galaxy is plunged into war.

Barely two stars for this one. Discovering events that transform the "plain" and "normal" administrative clerk into a galactic adventurer is a typical sci-fi story concept which might have kept interest if cut to a tight 200 pages or less. Instead, with the subtlety of a sledge hammer, the reader is repeatedly told that these kinds of things don't happen to " Plain Jane", and that Lucas Stone is just misunderstood by his fan club and the media circus, but still thinks she's cute. More focus on character development, exposition, better descriptives, tighter action driving the relationships, and resolution of at least one conflict is needed. At the end of 569 pages the reader still doesn't have enough invested in either main character to bother reading the sequel or care how this ends. Don't waste time on this one. Read this author's Betwixt novels instead.

I read til the end, altho I almost quit the book several times, which stopped in an exciting part and is continued in Bk #2. I won't be buying it. There's too much repeating of the same thing as if the author thought we might have forgotten and I didn't care for the way it ended. I don't mind books being continued but not ending in the middle of something that should be finished. I know it was to get me to pay for the next book but it turned me off. And it really needs editing.

I should have paid attention to the reviews. This could have been a good tale if the author cut all the repeated "plain" and "normal" stuff. It really bogged down the story. You could actually skip the first 3 or 4 chapters and have no problem following the story. The story didn't resolve anything. Just added more and more questions. The cliffhanger ending was cliche. I won't be bothering with book 2.

This is the worst SciFi book I've ever read. Sorry Odette. I really wanted to like it but the repetition is completely irritating. I was skipping whole sections to get on to with the story. This book could have been reduced by 2/3 if all the repetition were eliminated. I couldn't have said it better than the Anonymous post titled "Endless repetition and no resolution". I can't even bother with the second book. Yech!

The plot line and idea is good, but the repetition of the same thoughts over and over again get tiresome. I ended up reading about 1/3rd of the book, the rest I just skipped over.

It was okay, but horribly repetitive and definetly needed more work before putting it out to public. I like this writer, but this did not help her out any.
