Overview

The sky-hued pup and her human pal Steve Burns are back with a new musical story, and it's every bit as engaging as previous "Blue's Clues" albums. A PLAYDATE WITH BLUE is brimming with frolicsome, poppy tunes, an engaging storyline, and, of course, a mystery to solve. The premise is that Blue's best friend Magenta -- another nontraditionally-colored canine with the same burbly way of speaking as Blue -- is coming over to play. The enigma that Steve (and pint-sized listeners) proceeds to solve, with the help of three sound-effects clues, is what the doggie pals want to do together on their playdate. In the process, the concept of friendship is explored: kids learn that, while people are drawn to each other because of similarities, they may become friends because of differences, too. There's also an emphasis on compromise and sharing, and the lessons are all wrapped up in a shiny, feel-good musical package. Other "Blue's Clues" characters turn up over the course of the album, including Mailbox and the French-accented Mr. Salt, who do a charming Broadway-esque "you say tomato, I say tomahto" kind of tune called "Why Are We Such Good Friends." Eventually, the two celebrate their own differences (Mailbox: "I've always admired your holey, shiny head." Salt: "How great for you to have the flag instead.") The enhanced CD version includes "Blue's Clues" games the kids can play on computer. But A PLAYDATE WITH BLUE is such a satisfying auditory experience, your kids will be thrilled just to keep listening.
