CHAPTER 1
A Poetic Kaleidoscope
I welcome you to come and read
This kaleidoscope of poems indeed
Where they are mixed in every way
From serious to comedy.
Some philosophy you'll see,
A couple ballads there will be.
Some stories too, for what they're worth
Are given here to a new birth.
A couple fantasies as well
And romance also there to tell.
No epics, they would take too long.
Just entertainment fill the throng.
And so enjoy these poems I've done.
I hope your pleased with every one.
For pleasure these were meant to be,
My kaleidoscope of poetry.
Purgatory—A Place Within
T'is by a definition given what heavenly bodies will debate,
For Purgatory is deriven from death and sins before the gate.
Yet I contend that this is not the truth of which we all must face,
For truly we are there right now, our Purgatory of disgrace.
As god is so within us all and sin is oh so of our own,
Our purgatory then must come, within our life our sins are sown.
We have our purgatory now each day and how we live,
For those that are so short of life, there is less to forgive;
Yet those who live so saintly, and yet seem to live so long,
Are, to them, living such short lives, they cannot give as strong.
And so the case of those who are so evil yet live on.
They fully are in purgatory, eternally prolonged.
And then there are the rest of us, with good and bad combined.
Our balancing of hopes and needs and lusts so unrefined.
We seek so much to do all right, and yet our wants command,
That lust and greed and pleasures call upon us to demand.
An equal portion of the good with evil we do seek
Our purgatory then appears to help us o'er this peak.
For with this time that purgatory gives us to adjust,
Our actions and our wants and needs that suit us to our best,
We balance all our lust and greed to fill that soulful space,
And let our purgatory give us faith in our disgrace.
We know our many actions give both a good and evil shout
As it is our purgatory, lets us live our life throughout.
On Fishing
It's great for me to take my fishing rod as I do stroll,
Down to a little sandy bar, to my local fishing hole.
It is an isolated spot a widening of stream
With sand and grass, the sun upon the water makes it gleam.
I cast my line out to the water, then lay on the bank,
As I watch squirrels rushing 'round, as playfully they prank,
And as the clouds form different shapes, some that I do recall,
I lay and watch and meditate and just absorb it all.
To lay there with my rod in hand enjoying everything,
The sights and sounds, and all around, the birds play as they sing.
In springtime, summer, and the fall it all is just so fine,
That next year I may kick it up by putting hook to line.
Rise and Shine
Give us wings and let us fly,
O'er the earth above the sky.
Give us fins and let us swim,
O'er the oceans at our whim.
Give us wheels and let us ride,
O'er the land where we decide.
Give us all that we may rove,
From end to end, this wondrous globe.
You gave us planes that we may fly,
You gave us boats to sail by.
You gave us cars that we may drive,
And all to keep our dreams alive.
Now we have all the things it takes,
To see the valleys and the lakes;
To travel o'er the oceans deep,
And gaze upon the mountain peaks.
The rest I fear is up to you
For you know well what's left to do.
Get out of bed, get off that chair,
Free up your soul and travel there!!
Happiness
What is this happiness we seek,
The source of which our senses peak.
To find this answer we must first,
Define the word for which we thirst.
The opposite of happiness
Is not the sadness we may guess,
For both of these may co-exist,
And make each others comfort list.
Now I contend that in my quest
To truly define happiness,
Boredom is the opposite,
A word so negative to fit.
And opposite to boredom is
A word that fits with happiness.
Excitement is the word I pick,
That wakes our senses in a flick.
For now we have found what we seek,
A word that makes our senses peak.
That word for happiness defined,
Excitement is what comes to mind.
Building Memories
As we learn the secrets that our lives will bring about;
As we learn the happiness for which we want to shout.
As we find the sorrows and the sadness that befalls,
As we build our memories, that our lifes hist'ry recalls.
Building on our memories, filling up our minds.
Writing in our book of life and spacing all the lines.
Taking from all those that speak, and adding to our mission;
Making hist'ry for ourselves and others who may listen.
BUILDING BUILDING MEMORIES, BUILDING WONDROUS
MEMORIES, BUILDING BUILDING MEMORIES, UNTIL THAT
FINAL TIME.
As we search throughout the lands to find our wanted wealth,
As we delve into the corners, and we look on every shelf,
As we look under the mats, and the carpets and the floor,
As we seek where e'er we can increase our knowledge evermore.
Building on our memories, filling up our minds.
Writing in our book of life and spacing all the lines.
Taking from all those that speak and adding to our mission,
Making hist'ry for ourselves and others that may listen.
BUILDING BUILDING MEMORIES, BUILDING ALL THOSE
MEMORIES, BUILDING BUILDING MEMORIES, UNTIL OUR
FINAL TIME.
As our youth begins to fade and, middle age comes on,
As our thoughts get settled down and true exuberance is gone,
As the tint of grey appears, and our hairlines do recede.
As those memories so soon become our lifeline of our deeds.
Building on our memories, filling up our minds.
Writing in our book of life and spacing all the lines.
Taking from all those that speak and adding to our mission.
Making hist'ry for ourselves and others who may listen.
BUILDING BUILDING MEMORIES, BUILDING ALL THOSE
MEMORIES, BUILDING WONDROUS MEMORIES, UNTIL OUR
FINAL TIME.
As old age upon us creeps and our bodies too decay,
As our wishes are that something more, our mind still lets us play;
Even when our mind appears to us to fade away as dust,
We will hold some happy memories of life's past joys and lusts.
Building on our memories, filling up our minds.
Writing in our book of life and spacing all the lines.
Taking from all those that speak, and adding to our mission.
Making hist'ry for ourselves and others that may listen.
BUILDING BUILDING MEMORIES, BUILDING ALL THOSE
MEMORIES, BUILDING WONDROUS MEMORIES, UNTIL OUR
FINAL TIME.
BUILDING BUILDING MEMORIES, BUILDING ALL THOSE
MEMORIES, ALL WE ARE IS MEMORIES, THIS IS OUR
FINAL TIME....
Donna's Tale
Donna had a story, a real tale of woe.
She wanted to look beautiful where ever she did go.
She'd primp and comb her hair so much, to make it look so fine,
And then she'd put her make-up on to cover any line.
Her dress was always snugly fit to show her figure so,
And she would always make sure that her cleavage it did show.
With panty hose the shade just so, to show her legs just right,
And heels that had the look of spikes, she was a lustful sight.
Our Donna needed all these things to help her in her quest,
To be the choice of every man, a touch above the rest.
As lady of the night, she was so difficult to top,
And many had no concept of the fact she was a cop.
Perception
It often is just what we see that we must then believe,
Yet sometimes that which we have seen will surely make us grieve.
So we will then adjust our thoughts regardless of the sight,
And make our mind pretend our vision was this time not right.
The Wonders of Our Destiny
A camel and a chimpanzee
Were travelling o'er the deep blue sea
For why, we still have yet to see
These strange two friend's can hardly be.
"Why are those humps upon your back.
Of beauty they have certain lack.
But beauty is not all there is
I'm sure there are some needs for this."
"To keep the water stored in me
As I do travel endlessly.
And why these humps are where they're at
'Cause on the front they would be fat
And dangle as they bounced around
So painful if they hit the ground."
The chimpanzee could understand
And so they carried on to land.
The camel watched the chimpanzee,
How he walked so aimlessly.
With back feet firmly on the land
And on his front his knuckles stand.
He said, "There chimp why is this so
You stand on hinds but when you go,
To run you drop onto to your fists
Is this to speed you through the mist?"
"Yes camel you are oh so wise
For this you see as no disguise,
And when I stand I see much more
But when I run I'm on all four.
My front hands turn to hoofs like yours
And they will open even more
When I should ever wish to hold
To anything my hands unfold."
Their journey was to carry on
When then they came by chance upon
Two human forms they'd never seen
The male was so fit and lean
With shoulders broad and narrow waist
And long lean legs with which to race.
The other was of smaller size
With curvy hips and tender eyes
They were a very stunning pair
Nobody knows why they were there.
The camel said "Why I attest,
The short one has upon her chest,
Two humps they are a lot like mine
Are they to retain water fine?"
And so observed the chimpanzee
They both had feet the same as he.
And hands that opened wide to grasp
As his to let them multi-task
With sudden impact they did see
They had discovered history.
They knew that they were once the same,
The common force from which they came,
The humps for water in the sand,
The hands for grasping on the land.
It was so wonderful to think,
That they had found the missing link.
Promoting Happiness
What is this world without the stress?
Would it not be shear happiness?
The joys and bliss so pure and true
Tell us that we must follow through,
For such a thing would work for all
If happiness was our one call.
Call Home
Call home, let your family know what's happening to you.
Let them hear your voice and tell them that your love for them is true.
For the last thing on this earth that we would oh so hate to see,
Is a lonely soul just standing there without a family.
Dedication
The urge in me does grow and grow
And my desires too must flow.
I yearn to feel your gentle touch,
My thoughts of you demand so much.
Those cravings of you are intense
I hope that you take no offence;
For through these feelings pure and strong,
My thoughts of you grow oh so long.
When I lay down upon my bed
My thoughts of you race through my head.
I don't know how I ever could
Have played without my seven wood!!
Thinking Outside The Box
Of all the things there are to do
And all the sights there are to see
The biggest thing that's left for you
Open your mind and set it free!!!
Take the Time
What is it that we seek so often and cannot achieve;
The essence of our being that we hope that we may leave?
How can we make that impact that we want to echo so?
Are we so impatient that we cannot let things flow?
So take the time to linger, take the time to make it work.
Take the time to hear the music and to hear the coffee perk.
Take the time to feel the raindrops, and to taste the fruit so sweet.
Take that time to let your heart be warm and mindful of this feat.
Must we push ourselves to every point that we are prone to make?
Is it oh so necessary that our efforts are at stake?
Should we waste our time in our attempt at having some success,
So that we may die before our time contending with this stress?
So take the time to linger, take the time to make it work.
Take the time to hear the music and to hear the coffee perk.
Take the time to feel the raindrops and to taste the fruit so sweet
Take that time to let your heart be warm and mindful of this feat.
Can we not relax and take in all the wondrous things about;
All the many sounds and all the sights that want to make us shout.
All the smells and all the joys that are around us every day,
That will guide us through this happy life, for us, in every way.
So take the time to linger, take the time to make it work.
Take the time to hear the music and to hear the coffee perk.
Take the time to feel the raindrops and to taste the fruit so sweet
Take that time to let your heart be warm and mindful of this feat.
Ebony and Gold
Ebony, so very black, so deep and rich and dear,
But the colour of this mineral spells evil oh so clear.
Gold we see as shiny bright, rejoice it's special glow.
Man's greed made this an evil fright to take it's mortal toll.
With ebony so right and fine yet coloured evil so.
And gold so brilliant and devine with evil we're it goes,
We should not judge those special things by colour all alone,
For elegance and beauty both have features we condone.
Friends
Friends are the ones, that you trust the most.
They are the people that you hold so close,
And when they are there, it is so right to say,
That your fear and anxieties will fade away.
They're there to support you when you're feeling sad,
And they will stand by you through good and through bad;
To give you support when your reaching the gold.
And giving you strength as that challenge unfolds.
A friend is a person that through thick and thin,
Will try and support you if you lose or win,
Because of the nature of a truly good friend,
You know that they'll be with you right 'til the end.
Bliss—Finding Happiness
What is this passion that we seek
This drive that makes our bodies weak?
How do we always seek to strive
And keep desires so alive?
With all the energies possessed
We seldom have but time to rest.
Our need to finish what we start
Is driven on within our heart.
Our minds they move at such a pace
A great desire we must face
For when our bodies tire so
Our minds add strength so we may go.
That passion in our loins so deep
Allows our happiness to leap.
And when that passion does explode
Our bodies arch to meet that road.
Our energies have reached that peak
The happiness of which we seek
And warmth and tenderness appear
The bliss of love complete is here.
Vices—Those of Choice
What are these terrible habits that we put our bodies through,
Like drugs and drink and gluttony are just to name a few?
We were given this great gift of life to cherish and to love.
These vices are like suicide to strike us from above.
Of drugs there are so many, mine was cigarettes but then,
I finally learned that quitting proved to be my salvation.
Of harder drugs I know not what the truest answer is,
For I had the sense to leave alone destruction such as this.
The alcoholic drinks I chose were many different kinds,
Of beers, liquers and many things like gins and many wines.
As time goes on your brain cells wane and body functions slow,
And you then must make adjustments to this alcoholic flow.
Of gluttony I've seen it so that knees and muscles fold,
As the body gains that extra weight these features cannot hold.
And I truly think that exercise and true portions will ensure,
In a body that is normal and with that you can endure.
All these vices that I write about are not that easy cured,
But with efforts made and duties paid we all can be assured,
That our bodies will look after us throughout our many days
And we will gain much happiness in oh so many ways.
Coffee—The Choice of Brew
Morning comes and I awake to see the sun so bright,
And breakfast can be eggs and toast or maybe something light,
Like fruit, or even cereal, most anything will do,
But most important is that I must have that coffee brew.
From work I take a morning break and chat amongst my friends,
Of work and joys and many things to which the topic lends.
However there is one sure thing that I must always do.
That's to relax, enjoy the fact, while drinking coffee brew.
My lunchtime is for sandwiches or soup what e'er I wish.
I may have cheese and crackers or maybe a fancy dish,
But with this lunch to satisfy my pallet there must be,
A coffee brew for me to taste and cherish thoughtfully.
And in the afternoon I stop my work to take a rest;
To chat amongst my friends about the day's chores and their test.
But most of all I sit and rest and think what I will do,
When my coffee's done and I am through my final worktime brew.
When it's supper time and I have found the dish I want that night;
Be it chicken done in special sauce or steak cooked oh so right,
I know for sure the drink of choice there is to get me through.
It is of course the very best, another coffee brew.
As evening comes upon me and I sit about at rest,
And I chat a bit or watch T.V., whatever I like best,
And I have a tea or drink a beer to finish off this way,
For I know it was my coffee brew that got me throught the day.
