Overview

From the author of An Affair with Mr. Kennedy and A Dangerous Liaison with Detective Lewis comes a sexy new romantic caper in the Gentlemen of Scotland Yard series.

She was everything he remembered, only more so.

Cunning, reclusive Yard man Phineas Gunn is as skilled at capturing surly criminals as he is at charming beautiful women. But the dashing agent’s latest assignment is really testing his mettle. Officially, he’s investigating beguiling prima ballerina Catriona de Dovia Willoughby, a suspected anarchist. Unofficially, his attraction to his devilish former flame is hotter than ever.

Unsure whether to trust the enigmatic lover who betrayed her once, Cate nevertheless enlists Finn’s help to recover some priceless family jewels. Their pursuit erupts into a cross-continental adventure that begins with a double cross and crackles with secrets, lies, and sexual tension. The crime is clear—breaking and entering each other’s hearts—but as the clock ticks down, who will be the first to surrender?

I have read the two other books in the series and like other 2 a very good read filled with action and romance. However, this one was not like the first in the series, which i felt was the best of the bunch and I have to say even though this third installment was a good read i did not enjoy it as much. But overall it was a change from the other historical romances I have read.

PRIVATE DUEL WITH AGENT GUNN by Jillian Stone is an exciting historical romance/thriller set in 1887. Book 3 in "The Gentlemen of Scotland Yard" trilogy, but can be read as a stand alone. See," An Affair with Mr. Kennedy" and "A Dangerous Liaison with Detective Lewis".Race across a continent by land, sea and yes air with Phineas "Finn" Gunn, reclusive Scotland Yard detective and Catriona de Dovia Willoughby, ballerina and possible anarchist as they battle not only danger but desire. Filled with fast paced adventure, secrets, possible treason, passion, spies, theater, suspense, mystery, love and a romantic caper to die for which they just might. Cleverly written with details, engaging characters and a plot with a twist or two. Another wonderful read from this author. Dive into another wild, sexy, harrowing adventure with the Men of Scotland Yard and their adventurous ladies. Sherlock Holmes meet "The Gentlemen of Scotland Yard"! A must read for anyone who enjoys not only historical romance with a twist, but also espionage, adventure, sexy men, adventurous women,London, and racing across the continent from London to France and lands in between. The other day I was at a discount retailer looking at a shelf of random gourmet goodies. Behind the buckets of popcorn, white chocolate pretzels and jelly bellies was a small bag of toffee bits covered in dark chocolate with 72% cacao. It was $2. I took that bag home and ate a few pieces, my eyes rolled back in my head and it was my idea of the nectar of the gods. This is precisely how I feel about Jillian Stones Gentlemen of Scotland Yard. Jillian has mastered piquing my interest, engaging me in the dance and paces her novels perfectly so that the chase of the bad guy and the chase between the H & h offers plenty of anticipation but little aggravation. A Private Duel with Agent Gunn is a fantastic example of Jillian Stone's lovely characters - Finn and Cate are compelling, interesting and overwhelmingly appealing leads. They achieve a sense of balance in their power dynamic and a partnership that so rarely occurs in romance novels without deception and ridiculous replications of the Taming of the Shrew. Jillian Stone's heroes and heroines are accomplished, interesting, curious and ultimately respectful characters. They recognize and admire this in each other. The unique positioning of capable intelligent women linked with admiring and partnering men is charmingly captured and seems honest to the time period, their occupations and their back-stories. I savor every page and love to watch the dance, the courtship, the puffing of chests and fluffing of feathers and the coming together of her romances.
