A Proggy Christmas

All Music Guide - Gregory Heaney
Featuring a laundry list of progressive rock mainstays including Neil Morse, Mike Portnoy, and Pete Trewavas and delivering a brand of holiday cheer that's been finely tuned for prog lovers, the Prog World Orchestra add a little weirdness to some yuletide favorite on A Proggy Christmas. Standing out among an already strange selection is "Frankincense," a track that merges the odd couple of Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein" with "Deck the Halls," creating a Christmas jam that's festive and strangely muscular. Though prog and Christmas tunes are both genres that have the potential to send people running in the other direction, this is an album that fans of bands like Spock's Beard and Dream Theater could have a lot of fun with, and it'll definitely make for some essential holiday obscuro for years to come.
