Overview

In the second novel in USA Today bestselling author Bronwen Evans’s sexy new Disgraced Lords series, two very independent souls find themselves fighting to resist a deepening passion.

When Beatrice Hennessey sets out to confront Lord Coldhurst, the notorious rogue who killed her brother in a duel, her intent is to save her family from destitution. She’s determined to blackmail the man into a loveless marriage. She’ll make the wealthy Lord Coldhurst pay for the rest of his life. But while greeting his ship, Beatrice takes a tumble into the Thames—only to be fished out by a pair of strong masculine arms that tempt her to stay locked in their heated embrace forever. That is, until she realizes those arms belong to Sebastian Hawkestone, Lord Coldhurst himself.

The little drowned mermaid has an interesting proposition indeed; one that Sebastian is surprised to find quite agreeable. Although he’s had women more beautiful, she is pleasing to the eye, and besides, it’s time he fathered an heir. Beatrice promises to be the ideal wife; a woman who hates him with an all-consuming passion is far too sensible to expect romance. However, it isn’t long before Sebastian’s plan for a marriage of convenience unravels, and he’s caught up in the exhilarating undertow of seduction.

A PROMISE OF MORE by Bronwen Evans is another exciting Historical Romance set in 1815-1816 London, England. #2 in the "Disgraced Lords" series, but can be read as a stand alone. See, "A Kiss of Lies".

Meet, Beatrice Hennessey, whose brother, Lord Coldhurst is accused of killing in a duel and Sebastian Hawkestone, Lord Coldhurst, the man who dueled with her brother earlier and one of the famous Disgraced Lords.

Fast paced with passion, secrets, and finding love. I adore this series and this author. A PROMISE OF MORE was more romantic than intrigue to me. It was more about the love and romance, than the danger the Disgraced Lords are facing.

But with this said....there is much to enjoy about A PROMISE OF MORE, such as the passion, secrets and the romance. Toward the end, we learn more of the person out to destroy the Disgraced Lords, but not their reason for doing so. The sins of the father is to be re-visited upon the sons. For this is what, this person is intent on doing....destroying the sons of the fathers who abused or whatever this person years earlier.

If you enjoy mystery, suspense, a bit of intrigue, and lots of romance and passion, than do pick up A PROMISE OF MORE, you will not regret your choice of reading material. Ms. Evans, pulls the reader into the story and holds them there long after the last page. I can hardly wait to see what's next in this fast paced drama filled, with a tale of intrigue and passion. A must read!! Well done! Received for an honest review.

Not as good as the frst one

Sebastion is a total jerk. No woman could forgive what he did. I did not like this book as well as the first one. He treats her like trash and then all is forgiven, even after he went to another woman; really. I just could not make myself like him. Beatrice is a saint. The other reviews must be from people who were paid. Hopefullly the next one will be better.

Written as a combined review with the first book of this series

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

OH ME OH MY!  I never thought I'd find a series that could be similar and/or match the Lonely Lords series I love so much ... well I have to say I have found another series that so far is just as good and satisfying! *HAPPY DANCE*

The Disgraced Lords by Bronwen Evans is a new historical romance series that centres around a group of Lords called "The Libertine Scholars".  These Lords all met and formed this group when they attended school.  They are known rakes, handsome, rich, smart and extremely loyal to each other.  When they realize that someone from their past is beginning to set each of them up for ruin and then attempting to take their lives, they band together like no other time and try to put their heads together to solve this mystery.  It just so happens that in the midst of all of this, they are meeting their perfect lady and struggling with a change of lifestyle that is going to claim them no matter how hard they fight it!

Let's meet the first two shall we?

    BOOK 1 - A Kiss of Lies

    DESCRIPTION

In Bronwen Evans’s Loveswept debut, a pair of damaged souls ignite each other’s deepest passions—even as they tempt fate by deceiving the world.

Desperate to escape her abusive past, Sarah Cooper disguises herself as a governess in the employ of Christian Trent, Earl of Markham, the man who, long ago, she fantasized about marrying. Despite the battle scars that mar his face, Sarah finds being near Christian rekindles her infatuation. A governess, however, has no business in the arms of an earl, and as she accompanies Christian on his voyage home, Sarah must resist her intense desires—or risk revealing her dangerous secrets.

One of the renowned Libertine Scholars, Christian Trent once enjoyed the company of any woman he chose. But that was before the horrors of Waterloo, his wrongful conviction of a hideous crime, and his forcible removal from England. Far from home and the resources he once had, Christian believes the life he knew—and any chance of happiness—is over . . . until his ward’s governess sparks his heart back to life, and makes him remember the man he used to be. Now Christian is determined to return to England, regain his honor, and win the heart of the woman he has come to love.

    REVIEW

You have to love a series that starts off with the tortured soul character.  LOL

Christian Trent is the Earl of Markham and suffers from a horrific event in his past.  Left badly scarred physically and mentally, he lives his life attached to the alcohol bottle and paying for woman's services.  He craves a gentle touch, a kind word that is genuine and comes from the heart.   When Christian is forced to flee England after being accused of a crime he ends up in Canada.  Suddenly finding himself the ward of a young girl, Christian decides to hire Sarah Cooper as a governess.

Sarah Cooper is also on the run and is hiding her real identity.  When she becomes the governess of Christian's ward, she also becomes the one woman that sees beyond his scars.  Christian will have her .... as his wife despite her status.  Truths are bound to surface though, leaving these two with many questions for the other.  In the midst of their own personal drama, both have a dangerous past that returns and threatens to tear them apart forever.

    REVIEW

Oh I want a Sebastian wrapped up and placed under my tree this Christmas .. he is YUMMY! :)

Sebastian Hawkestone, Lord Coldhurst is a hardcore womaniser, hottest man of this group and HE KNOWS IT!  Love will never capture him, marriage is a far away chore that he will one day have to do so he can have an heir.  He loves the ladies and the ladies love him.  When he is challenged to a duel something goes terribly wrong.  Another disgraced Lord forced to flee, he returns to England only to find himself saving the life of a woman that he would never believe to be waiting at the dock for his arrival.

Beatrice Hennessey is the sister of the man that Sebastian killed.  Her family is in dire straits and knowing that if anything, Sebastian has a strong sense of family, she guilts him into marrying her.  Sebastian thinks he has to provide an heir anyway and at least he will never fear falling in love with her.   Problem solved .. well not quite!  Sebastian is captivated by his innocent bride who responds so wickedly to his touch and before he knows it, they are falling in love.  When dangers knocks on the door however, suddenly Sebastian realizes he not only has much to gain, but much to LOSE!

I really enjoy Bronwen Evans writing style.  There is an engaging natural flow and we are teased with the promise of more mystery and storyline.  She writes delectable love scenes that make me melt and sigh.  Her characters are strong, damaged in their own way and perfectly imperfect.  If you love the historical romance genre, then do yourself a favour and check out this series.  I can't wait for the next book! :)

    HAPPY READING! :)

I love this series. The first book "A Kiss of Lies" which was my first book by Bronwen Evans was so good that I could not wait for the next book and it did not disappoint. Sedation played a big roll in the first book and he was all charm and charisma. He first meets Beatrice when he saves her from drowning and she propositions him to marry her. I did not like him because he was very cold and aloof and seemed a bit heartless but we soon find that its a wall he has built to protect his life from becoming his parents volatile life. Beatrice soon wears him down and what fun it is to see him fall. There is great passion and suspense in the book and I highly recommend this series.

    Over emoted

There is too much cheesey "what will I do? How will I live without you?" Scmaltz. The sex scenes are too long and detailed and seem to be just filler to make the story stretch over 100 pages.

I absolutely loved the first book in this series, A Kiss of Lies

I absolutely loved the first book in this series, A Kiss of Lies, so I had high hopes for this book. And, it definitely met them! A Promise of More was a romantic, thrilling, absolutely fantastic read. I loved this book. It was wonderful.

Beatrice was a strong heroine. She refused to be backed into a corner or forced to do someone else's bidding. And, she was clever enough to always find a way out. I really liked her. She was tough, loyal to her loved ones, and very likable.

Sebastian was also great. He was very sweet and loyal to those he cared about (though he didn't like to admit to any love). I loved how protective he was with his sisters and Beatrice. My one problem with him was that he could really be an ass sometimes. I understood why he was so unnerved by the thought of falling in love, after what he saw from his parents. But, he could be rather mean about it. However, he did realize his mistakes and made sure to correct them and, overall, I really liked him. Other than that, he was just adorable.

The romance was sweet and steamy. Despite Sebastian's reluctance to go anywhere near love, their feelings were still obvious on both sides. And, the chemistry between them was hot and led to some serious steaminess. I thought they were perfect together.

The plot was fast paced and I was hooked the entire way through. There were tons of twists along the way, a few secrets, and enough thrills to keep me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed the story and the ending tied up the romance, while leaving the mystery open for the next books. I can't wait to see what happens next!

A Promise of More was a fantastic historical romance. I really liked this book. It kept me hooked and left me anxious for more. Romance lovers, this book (and this series) is one you definitely need to read.

Wow, where to begin! I loved this and I love The Disgraced Lords Series. This book offers everything, from love, romance, heat, mystery,
it just simply has it all. The detail of the historical facts that the author provides is amazing. You can tell through reading that Bronwen
Evans really takes the time to get not only the romance portion of the story correct but also the historical portion. I think I actually like this
installment better, the characters were even more unlikely than in the first installment, although I loved that one as well.
"Henpeck Hennesy" is one of the strongest female characters that I've read in a long time. I love the vulnerability that is underlying with
Sebastian and that with her love he is able to deal with and move past it. And the intrigue...it's like icing on the cake!

Good story and characters ruined by vulgarity

I am always disappointed when smart storylines with characters having interesting backstories is ruined by explicit descriptions of depraved behavior, using vulgar language. It's so much more enjoyable to have the characters transformations revealed through intelligent writing. Brothels and prostitution represented in glamorous prose is a contradiction to the reality of the lifestyle. I much prefer the heroes sins to be implied without graphic details, and their thoughts and feelings to be understood through the progression of the story and changes that occur through their falling in love. I am even more interested to know whether it is the author, the editor, the publisher or all three who decide to add this content to a story that easily could stand alone without the smut. I wish there were a rating on the books to know which ones are filthy and should be avoided because they rob the reader of reading a worthy romance by reducing it to rubbish.

I’ve read a number of Bronwen Evans books and I enjoyed the story of this one, but I found there was too much repetition. There were too many places where you read the same thing (phrased differently) over and over as you had read before. Sebastian Hawkestone kills Beatrice Hennessey’s brother in a duel and the story goes from there. Except for the repetition, it was a good story and good characters. It’s interesting how much the characters change from the beginning of the book to the end. I look forward to the next book in The Disgraced Lord series.

Ms. Bronwen Evans just fulfilled her promise of more.

Once you started reading the Libertine Scholars, you will surely look for more. And now, this is Sebastian’s story, and I guess, the series had just gotten better and better.

Here comes Beatrice Hennessey – the sister of the man who Lord Coldhurst killed in a duel. She wanted to confront him and blackmail him into marrying her to save her family. Someone had offered for her, but she’d die first, perhaps be a courtesan before she’d accept his offer. Their first meeting was an epic, she fell into Thames while waiting for his ship to dock, and he was the knight in shining armor that saved her.

She wasn’t that beautiful the first time he met her, that’s why he readily agreed to her proposition. To appease his guilt, to save his heart and to sire an heir, it was killing several birds in one stone. But first, he needed to tell her his terms…

I hated him, then I loved him, then hated him, then loved him – will you stop reminding her you married her to save her family from the poor house?! Can’t you just shut your mouth before you can say more damaging words? Sebastian can be a little exasperating at times. Especially when he can’t control his temper, or when he’s in a verge of a panic attack because he can’t control his emotions. BUT, in fairness to this character, he might not believed on love (which he constantly reiterate in this novel), but he loves his sisters very much and takes good care of them and protect them from the awful memories their parents left them. One thing I love about him though: he takes care of what belongs to him, and he would do everything in his power to protect them.

His parents were the reason he didn’t believe in love. He wanted to get married, not because of a love match. But he wanted a marriage that will foster trust, friendship and respect. He hated secrets and lies, and she wasn’t exactly truthful to him.

She had secrets, that wasn’t really hers, but she was bound to a promise. I wished she’d just tell him. They were already in danger, and she was snooping around. I didn’t really blame Sebastian when he started to be suspicious with her whereabouts, she didn’t really offered him the truth in the first place. He tried to asked, but she denied. So when she was caught – it was downright painful and heartbreaking, and yes, being a woman, you’d want to snap his neck because he wouldn’t hear her explanations.

She wanted love, he didn’t want it. It was a game they were playing, and Beatrice is determined to have him believe in love and fall in love with her. Will she eventually thaw the ice that surrounds his heart?

A Promise of More is a perfect mix of romance, suspense and mystery that will keep you hanging to your readers.

Who in the world wants them dead?

In the last chapter, Ms. Evans allowed her readers a glimpse of the woman who started this vendetta against the Libertine Scholars. She was ruthless, alright – but she had one thing I didn’t expect someone like her to have: a conscience. I still had no idea who this woman might be, and the remaining Libertine Scholars, probably including Serena are still in danger from her. She will stop at nothing to avenge herself. Ms. Evans sure knows how to heighten the anticipation of her readers, and I must say, I can’t wait for the rest of these disgraced lords’ story and the revelation of the identity of the girl who wanted them all punished.

This is the second book in this series. I have read the first so now I have to read this book to see how Sebastian and Beatrice get their Happy Ever After. Sebastian fled after he killed a young man in a duel. Or did he? Next he is accosted by the older sister of the young man when he comes home. Beatrice is going to get him to marry her as her family is destitute and it's his fault. He tells her it's friends only as he doesn't believe in love. As she believes in love there is a lot of action in this Adult book both in and out of bed. Then someone wants the group of friends, The Libertine Scholars, dead. This book goes by fast. Between trying to save their marriage and their lives it ends way to too soon. Try it and fall into the series like I did.

Compelling Characters, Entertaining & Suspenseful Storyline!

No one is safe as one woman's journey to revenge continues in this second installment in the Disgraced Lords series. When two people marry out of guilt and desperation you'd expect things to end badly, but for these two strong-willed people love unexpectedly flourishes just as danger comes knocking. With their lives hanging in the balance they realize that love is the most important thing in a marriage and that they'll do anything to keep the other safe as they join together to find out the villain's identity.
After being framed for murdering a young noble in a duel over a mistress, Sebastian feels indebted to the young man's family and will do anything to make amends....including marrying the woman all of the ton thinks of as endlessly nagging. As he doesn't want anything to do with love she seems to be perfect for a wife. He'll take care of her family in exchange for wedding and bedding her for an heir and in exchange he'll carry on as a bachelor in any bed he desires. The moment he sees her walking down the aisle though everything changes and he realizes there's more to her than meets the eye and against his will he becomes drawn to her. He soon wants to bed only her and becomes a more responsible man because of the belief she has in his kindness and honor. When she's put in danger by manipulative members of the ton who have their own plans for revenge, he realizes her importance in his life and puts his life on the line to get her back in a pulse pounding and desperate race to the story's conclusion. Sebastian was a sexy and charming hero who had trust issues because of his parent's miserable marriage full of vengeful infidelities. Love means heartache and he wants nothing of it. He's a loving brother though and cherishes his two sisters. Seeing this proves he has a heart and made him even more endearing and had me rooting for Beatrice to win him over.
Beatrice is her family's only hope to stay out of the poor house as she bravely goes to the devil himself to force him into marrying her out of guilt. She doesn't expect him to be so sexy though and is surprised by how warm he makes her feel. After what Sebastian did to her brother she's angry with herself but can't help being drawn to him. Though his offer of marriage without love saddens her as she hoped for more when she finally married, she knows an old and plain spinster like her should be grateful. As they spend more time together she discovers more about her husband, the truth of what happened that day at the duel and the danger he's in from an unknown enemy, and stays by his side helping him get one step closer to his enemy and falling in love with him. I adored Beatrice from the very start as she did whatever necessary to save her family. She knew what the ton thought of her and didn't care as her actions were in care of her family. She was open with Sebastian, loyal, and understanding. She never jumped to conclusions but made them talk through their issues. She's strong-willed and a perfect match for Sebastian as he needed someone to make him see the truth about the taint his parent's marriage left on his soul which allowed for an immensely satisfying HEA.
The romance between Sebastian and Beatrice was steamy from the very start as their verbal banter was as sexy as foreplay. Their sexual interludes were equally hot and nicely paced throughout the story. I soon found myself fully immersed in this story and greatly anticipating the next installment!

In this story, love came softly and unexpectedly for Sebastian and Beatrice. Their marriage of convenience secured her family financially, and provided a way for Sebastian to have an heir. Neither married for love (he killed her brother Doogie in a duel over her brother’s mistress); they agreed to want respect, trust, and companionship from each other only.

Discovering Sebastian didn’t kill Doogie took this story in an interesting direction. As a renowned rake, I half-expected Sebastian to cast Beatrice aside, maybe annul their marriage since they hadn’t consummated their marriage before this discovery. He didn’t. He stuck to their original plan. And I loved him for that.

His journey from distant husband to loving spouse wasn’t easy. His past contended with his present and future, making it difficult for him to admit what he for Beatrice was more than high regard or friendship. He thought himself above lowly feelings such as love and jealousy, but he discovered he wasn’t. He experienced jealousy first, and lashed out in the most cruel way to Beatrice. Instead of seeking her out right away and asking her forgiveness, he sought to lose himself in another woman’s body. Despite her beauty and willingness to please him, he found (much to his dismay I think) he didn’t want anyone other than his wife. I hated him for his infidelity but forgave him when he admitted it.

His honesty, even when it didn’t seem like he wanted to be honest, was like a breath of fresh air. A rake who wouldn’t hide behind smooth words and glossed over lies? Interesting indeed.

Beatrice’s dishonesty was shocking and disappointing. I would have loved for her to be as open with Sebastian as he was with her. Oh, I understood her reason and why she couldn’t tell him at first. But he’s her husband, her lover, her provider, her protector. He was honest when he didn’t have to be. He braved his past to reveal his love for her. Surely she knew he would do all he could to help in her time of need?

The hardest scene for me to read was close to the end. Rape is always difficult to read about. Whether in real life or in fiction, it’s hard to swallow the cruelty someone would bestow on another simply because they can. Yet, one word at a time, the scene that is painted involving Beatrice and a lord is devastating and gut-wrenching. But then Sebastian is there, putting a stop to it, saving her from what could have happened. If she didn’t know it before, she knew then with full-clarity how much he loved her.

There is immense power in loving and forgiving someone. Ms. Evans demonstrates that more than once in Sebastian and Beatrice’s relationship. They’re not perfect. Their relationship is ripe with mishaps and misunderstandings. Their pasts continuously darken their present. But they press forward, persevering against their own doubts, reaching for a future neither considered possible when they started this journey, and gaining a happy ever after they fought hard for.
