Gene Krupa was the world's first superstar drummer, and if he earned his fame as much because of his flamboyance as his actual talent, he brought drummers out of the shadows and helped set the stage for bop rhythms. This set collects recordings from the 1940s and early '50s, including "Drum Boogie," "Let Me Off Uptown," "Jungle Drums," "Disc Jockey Jump," and "Bop Boogie" which features vocals by Irene Day. An incredible number of musicians passed through Krupa's various bands and combos, and trumpeter Roy Eldridge, tenor saxophonists Charlie Ventura and Ben Webster, and bassist Ray Brown all had a hand in some of these tracks.
