Overview

The families Jensen and MacCallister are two of the most legendary clans in frontier fiction. Now, the USA Today bestselling authors of A Lone Star Christmas bring them together once more--in a gripping tale of tragedy, survival, love, betrayal, and maybe even a miracle...

Three days before Christmas, Matt Jensen is traveling the Denver and Pacific railway when an avalanche slams down onto the train, trapping it in desolate Trout Creek Pass. But it wasn't an act of nature that caused the accident; it was a gang of outlaws attempting to rescue their leader, who is being taken to Red Cliff to be hanged.

As Smoke Jensen and Duff MacCallister frantically try to make their way to the scene, Matt struggles to save the survivors, among them a beautiful young woman with a dark past, a merchant seaman turned rancher, and a senator with his very ill young daughter. Starving under a bitter, driving snow in the brutal, unforgiving Rocky Mountains, and surrounded by armed and desperate outlaws, Matt still dreams of making it home for Christmas. But unless fate lends a hand, nobody will.

Nobody but Johnstone could mix romance, roughnecks, robbery and the wonder of the Christmas season so well. Armed bandits take over the Red Cliff Special only a few days before Christmas to free a prisoner, not realizing the insurmountable odds fate had placed in their path. Matt Jensen, aboard the train on his way to visit Smoke and Sally for Christmas, means to help the passengers survive and with the help of some old friends, he succeeds. Justice takes aim and fires a shot, nearly bringing down a snow-covered mountain in the process. Perfect for a good read by the fire on a cold winter night, A Rocky Mountain Christmas doesn’t disappoint.

A Rocky Mountain Christmas by William Johnstone Matt Jensen is on his way to spend Christmas with the family-the ones who took him in. Jenny McCoy is on the same train after she's been wed, widowed and banished. The Senator is on the train with his wife and very sickly daughter. The sheriff is escorting a man to prison for 4 years along with a man to be hanged for holding up a man and asking for all his money. There are others on and about the area when the train is derailed due to an avalanche. How will they survive and pull together to make it through the storm??? Easy to keep the characters straight. Love a good western and this is one of them. I received this book from The Kennsington Books in exchange for my honest opinion.

good Christmas read..............Matt on a train with 2 convicts, hmm. One a convicted hardened criminal one an innocent. Throw in an avalanche, and attempted hijacking, a sick child, a victim of circumstance and low fuel and food rations and you have a wonderful Christmas story. LOL. Matt, on his way to see his brother smoke and sally in Colorado, gets caught up in a dire situation that keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way thru. There is the pompous politician (that I wanted to smack myself) and his sick child. There is a woman whose is falsely accused of being a soiled dove ( and run out of town) and the wrongly convicted prisoner (who will be exonerated). There are a few more little dramas but I dont to give away all the plots. LOL. As this story is unfolding, I kept thinking what would be the best way to rescue these passengers. Well, it was not what I expected at all. You must read this to find out. You won’t be disappointed.

Reviewed by Kristie Ingerto for Readers' Favorite “A Rocky Mountain Christmas,” written by William W. Johnstone with J.A. Johnstone, is a story of survival along with love and betrayal set in the late 1800’s. Rebecca Robinson, former Ambassador and the country’s most admired woman, is waiting for her flight and Margaret Chambers, a news reporter, sees her and asks to interview her. As this is right before Christmas Margaret wants a specific story, one that took place many years earlier when Rebecca was a young girl. The rest of the book is the story that Rebecca shares with Margaret: a story of survival in the Rocky Mountains. Rebecca is traveling on a train with her Senator father when an avalanche causes an accident and they become trapped along with a few other survivors. Smoke Jensen and Duff MacCallister are trying to reach the accident scene to help Matt and save the passengers; however, this was not a mere accident. A prisoner traveling on the train is freed after the accident and joined with his band of outlaws who make things difficult for everyone who are already suffering from the cold and snowy weather and being trapped. Will a Christmas miracle take place? This is a well-written historical fiction novel set on the western frontier. I was immediately drawn into the story and imagined myself sitting there with Margaret and Rebecca for the sharing of the story. I love Christmas stories and this is such a great story with a Christmas miracle that should be read and reread each year. It is a good story of survival and also love, but also a story of relationships and experiences that pull people together and create a bond, a bond that otherwise may not have been formed due to prejudices or appearances. The characters trapped on the train are forced to spend time together and form relationships as they are working toward a common purpose. The cover is also well done and I love the details in the scene that is depicted.

Major disappointment! While the outline of the plot in the reviews sounded interesting, the actual details in the story were too farfetched and hard to believe. I rarely don't finish a book but gave up on this one at page 50.

While waiting for the runways to be cleared at the airport, former Ambassador Rebecca Daniels Robinson is approached by a reporter. The reporter wants to know what her most harrowing Christmas was.  Several people are taking a train through Colorado at Christmas time.  The train gets trapped in an avalanche with 37 people inside.  With Christmas fast approaching, the children on board were hoping to be where they were going to spend Christmas.  One little girl is deathly sick and there are criminals holding the dining car.  Will the rescue train make it in time?      A book for any time of the year.  The story stresses the importance of not judging others and helping each other in times of need.  Well written with full rich characters this is one you'll add to your keeper pile.  I recommend this book for men and women. It's a good old fashioned western story.      I found the first three chapters or so move slowly. Keep with it and the end pays off for the slow start.      I gave this one 4 cheers out of 5 because of the slow start.    ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~
