They came from all walks of life, from every corner of the nation to take part in the 1889 race for land in what was known as Indian Territory--an epic event in American history. When a gritty school teacher and her newly aquired family...her brother's four children, heads west, she is determined to claim her plot of land and start a new life. She is determined to do this on her own, but doesn't count on locking horns with a handsome lawyer who has other plans for her and her future. With a cast of endearing characters, a solid plot and even a dab of humor, his well written story about love, trust and new beginnings will keep you entertained from start to finish.

Tori Henderson is gutsy, fierce & feisty girl of the 1800s. Why do you ask? Because she is wagon training across the US to Oklahoma with her orphaned nieces & nephews in tow for the 1889 Great Land Race. Jesse Cochran is also taking the Land Race to get a fresh start, leave his childhood behind him & start his law practice to the new frontier. Tori & Jesse are neighbors & they are like open flame to puddle of kerosene, EXPLOSIVE! Jesse is always stopping by to eat her fresh baked treats & she is always shooing him out the door! Their have 4 pint sized godfolks-in-training (2 nieces & 2 nephews) & the growing town of Guthrie, Oklahoma always causing them to be to close for comfort! Soon draw scorching kisses, naughty caresses & hearts open to that pestie emotion called LOVE!
Ms. Hutton's world of Guthrie, Oklahoma is a such a wonderful place to be, with all the warm, giving & meddling people who suck you into their loving & giving families. Tori is in my collection of strong willed heroines & she totally earned it with her spunkiness, never willing to give up & by raising her nieces & nephews in a loving way. She had to do it the hard way & learn as she went! Jesse was a hero with a complete "save a damsel in distress" complex, but he was willing to put himself in a weaker position to help his Tori along her bumpy & pot holed path of childrearing her kooky & troublemaking clan! Ms. Hutton has many unexpected surprises along the way, sparked filled naughty scenes, a heroine never taking off her BIG GIRL PANTIE off, a stubborn clan of juvenile OOPS & a hero that can lasso them into a MEGA loving, never boring & giving FAMILY! Ms. Hutton gets my top score of 5 fingers up & 10 toes for this romance filled with a mega sized sense of family!

This fascinating story about settlers out West pulled me in from the first chapter. I loved the strength of the heroine and that the hero, although an alpha male, was able to express his sensitivity. I laughed when Tori kept telling Jesse to stop calling her "honey." Other scenes left me crying. Beautiful love story! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Having inherited four children, no money, and no hopes of finding a job--Tori sets off with her brood for Indian Territory...where people can race to stake claim to land...and a life.
I found this book totally delightful from page one through to the end. I'm not a regular reader of historical westerns, because honestly their lives were just so hard I don't find reading about that time an escape, but this story is different. This story is one of loss, triumph, and love. And I loved watching the h/h conquer it all with wit, laughter, tears, and love!
The hero and heroine will steal your heart and the kids will too. I'm a Callie Hutton fan!

From the first paragraph I was pulled into this story. Right away I wanted to see Tori succeed in making her dreams come true and at the same time forging a life for her nieces and nephews. She's a spunky, strong willed lady that you couldn't help but want to see succeed!
But then came Jesse, the hero with a fun sense of humor and good common sense! He had a trying past, but he didn't let it affect his outlook on life and he pushed ahead to make the most of himself.
Right away these two butted heads and I loved their easy, playful banter. And even though Tori tried to deny her attraction, Jesse worked his way into her life and heart.
I don't want to spoil the read by giving too much away. But this is a fun, spirited story full of fun facts about the Oklahoma Land Run. The characters were well written and the story was over before I wanted it to end...but the best part of that is that Callie Hutton is planning sequels and one has already been released. A Wife Before Christmas came out December 1st and is on my list of must reads.
I recommend this to anyone that wants to sit down and enjoy a historical romance with a twist of adventure, fun, humor and happily ever afters...of course with a few obstacles thrown in to make you sit on the edge of your seat!
