Overview

One of Opera’s great sopranos is dead. Was it murder? If so, who killed her? The Roma? The jealous wife? The ruthless understudy? Or was it Emma’s tomato sauce? Newly residing in Blissburg, a quaint, wine country town north of San Francisco that caters to the rich and richer, amateur sleuth Emma Corsi has a week to solve the murder before her second career as a food writer is ruined.  Her search entangles her with many of Blissburg’s quirky residents including a hunky Italian celebrity chef and an unlikely suitor named Jack Russo. In this first book of A. J. Carton’s new series, the Sonoma Wine Country Cozy Mysteries, Emma must confront a career change, the death of a close friend, and her turbulent relationship with her ambitious, outspoken daughter, Julie, who criticizes Emma’s beau as too sleazy and her wardrobe as too hippy for upscale Blissburg. Things only get worse when Emma becomes a homicide suspect, and Julie finds her successful PR firm threatened with extinction. Will Emma blow off a budding romance, or will she find the killer before she ends up in jail?

Funny, nothing offensive. Nice to have a heroine that some readers(like myself) can relate to age wise.

Never would have suspected the killer. Won't reveal it. Read it and enjoy.

I thought that the book had enough twists and turns in it and me guessing who did the murder. I enjoyed reading the book!

I enjoyed the book especially the character of Emma. I felt that she was the most developed of the characters. Her age is 65 and I am 66 and felt I could identify with her in so many ways. The plot is excellent and the writing flows very well. I did have a problem keeping up with too many characters. I did enjoy it enough to read more of the series in the future.

I loved this book. The number of potential suspects made figuring it out almost impossible. I liked Emma a lot - maybe I identified with her as I'm the same age. The touch of romance was nice, especially since it included that air of "I wonder where this is going" that real life has. The way the mystery wrapped up was great

Surprising twists & turns

I dislike books where the ending is too predictable. Thid book was great because it kept the ending just out of my grasp without getting ridiculous. That is a rare quality in mystery books. For that, I would definitely read more books by this author. I would recommend this book because it is clean and has intetesting characters. I found the main character to be frustrating at times but that was also what made her more realistic.

I'd like the book a whole lot better if the main character got a little more spine where her daughter and ex husband were concerned, or the daughter became less self centered.

I had high hopes for this story, however, the writing didn't flow. Commas would have been better used than periods in many instances. Mystery wasn't that good either. Overall, only a two-star book.
