Meet the Author

Marion Zimmer Bradley (1930-1999) was well known as the creator of the DARKOVER and MISTS OF AVALON series. Her works often have a feminist outlook.

Fritz Leiber (1910-1992) was known for his fantasy works, particularly the Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser series, but he also enjoyed success as a science fiction writer. He received the Gandalf award at the World Science Fiction Convention in 1975 and the Grand Master Award at the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America in 1981.

Abraham Merritt (1884-1943) was a respected journalist and has been cited as an influence on a number of authors, including H.P. Lovecraft. His novel THE MOON POOL has several similarities with the hit television program LOST.

H. Beam Piper (1904-1964) (Henry or Horace Beam Piper) was an influential American science fiction author of novels and short stories. Largely self-educated, Piper worked as a night watchman for a railroad before publishing a series of short stories in the 1950s. In the early 1960s, Piper published several successful novels including LITTLE FUZZY, which won the Hugo Award in 1963. Piper committed suicide in 1964.

Edward Elmer "Doc" Smith (1890-1965), was an early pioneer of the science fiction genre. Doc Smith is considered to be the "father" of Space Opera and one of the first science fiction writers to popularize the notion of faster-than-light interstellar travel.
