From A Slobbering Love Affair

"Never in my memory were so many journalists so intent on effecting change as they were during the campaign of 2008. Sure, mainstream journalists always root for the Democrat. But this time it was different. This time journalists were not satisfied merely being partisan witnesses to history. This time they wanted to be real players and help determine the outcome. This time they were on a mission, a noble, historic mission, as far as they were concerned. In fact, I could not remember a time when so many supposedly objective reporters had acted so blatantly as full-fledged advocates for one side-and without even a hint of embarrassment.

"...Make no mistake: this is not the same old liberal bias we have witnessed for years. In 2008, the mainstream media crossed a line. As a result, their credibility is in tatters. Hardly anyone trusts them anymore. This is not good for them, of course. But it may be even worse for us."

bernard goldberg has put together a remarkable book with most indepth documentation showing how the media does not give equal and fair coverage in the 2008 presidential election. he clarly shows how the media did not cover any of this candidates questianable activities or people that make him look bad like william ayers.in other words the media did not want to cover the election they were more intrested in electing a candidate. this is a very fasinating book . mr goldberg has documented a very indepth bestseller and alot of very intresting reseaerch that shows that the press should be showing both sides so people could be properly educated on the issues and the candidates.

I was so dissapointed in the media bias, that I turned off the television multiple times and just called people that knew what was really going on. Going straight to the source was (and still is) the best way to get true information. I wrote at least 12 letters to CNN for either getting it wrong or leaving out pertinent information that created a left leaning bias. Thank you for writing this book and "Thinking outside the flock"!

The way the media fawns all over Obama is sickening. He has only been president for a week and if they had their way he would already be on Mt. Rushmore. Can't they atleast wait a couple of years and see how he does as president. This is exactly why i started taking what ever the main stream media says with a grain of salt a long time ago. And the negative ratings prove that the Obama kool-aid drinkers cannot handle the truth about the media and their love affair with the messiah.

First, I must say to "oneforchange". Congratulations on your nursing degree, but I think you should have also taken an English class to learn how to spell and a typing class. Anyway, It is NOT the Republicans who are completely to blame for this economy. Everyone who KNOWS ANYTHING about the Government, knows that things that surface NOW are because of things that happened years ago. AKA: Bill Clinton days! The DEMOCRATS pushed and pushed congress to push the banks to loan money to DEADBEATS! The gave them loans and some people didnt even have a JOB! Whoever thinks that this mess is all Bush's fault is living in idiotville! Remember, THE PRESIDENT CAN'T SIGN ONE BILL UNLESS CONGRESS AND THE SENATE VOTES AND IT PASSES! The last 2 years, congress has been outnumbered by DEMOCRATS! You say you have no problem paying more taxes? Well, good for you! What a good American. Some of us ALREADY PAY TONS of taxes and when you get a raise and think,"hey, I can buy myself something" think again! The more you make, the more they take under the new tax INCREASE THAT WILL GO THROUGH! First it was 250,000 then 200,000 then 125,000 and guess what it is today, 75,000! So, if you are single and make 75,000 or more a year- YOU ARE IN TROUBLE! The more you make, the more they take- Obama is signing that OUR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT will send money to Mexico so they can have abortions. OUR MONEY GOES TO MEXICO FOR ABORTIONS! We wont torture ANYONE WHO BLOWS UP OUR COUNTRY, WE WILL JUST TRY TO BE THEIR FRIENDS! NUTSO!! Now I just heard today that they are going to jack up taxes on cigarettes to pay for all the children to have healthcare here. Well, most people will quit then, so where are they going to get the money then? On top of that- if no one quits smoking-which people will- but, if they dont, there still going to be short more than 23 million to support the kids' healthcare- so, where are they going to get the rest? DUH! We owe China Billions of dollars- that take over will be next for us and we are in debt now 1 trillion and Obama will spend another trillion to give everyone money whether they work, or not. I dont hear the Obama droolers bellyaching over that! Look has his LAVISH inauguration day! Millions spent on OUR MONEY! He could have spent 1/2 of that on the people and we could go shopping to get the economy going! I could go on and on, but let me just say 1 more thing. The University of Indiana researched that REPBULICANS GIVE almost 5% of their income to charity every year. The DEMOCRATS dont even round up to 1.5%. The old saying I heard from my GRANDPARENTS was- the Democrats LOVE TO take other peoples money and give it to the poor whether they are able to work, or not. But the Democrats always have a hard time giving up their own money! This Country has got to quit taking meds and get their heads out of their butts and GET TO WORK! EVERYONE wants a hand out! WORK PEOPLE! Stand for PRINCIPLES and not on EMOTIONS! BE LEADERS AND NOT FOLLOWERS! My gosh! I just cant WAIT TO SAY TO ALL THE OBAMA FOLLOWERS AKA: DROOLERS, I TOLD YOU SO!!!!! All the workers will quit working because they will have to give everything extra to the Government. Nope! We will just quit working, get hand outs like the rest of the folks and lets see how America looks then. All of us will be at 1 flat level as Obama sits in his WHITE HOUSE! THE ALMIGHTY MESSIAH! NOT! NOT! NOT! Hard work, moral, ethics and principles are what made America great. NOT DEADBEATS!

I'm glad I'm not the only person who sees how ridiculous the media and the amount and type of coverage Mr. Obama gets. The man has yet to do anything that warrants the media's adoration of him. Hopefully this book will show others and get them to start thinking for themselves and not follow what they are being spoon fed by the media.

Being stuck with the Washington Post for local and national news coverage, I am at a distinct handicap. But the Post is a fair bellweather of the extreme liberal Democratic party line of the major media. Goldberg, having spent 28 years at CBS with Rather & Co knows what he is talking about. He correctly observes that the media didn't elect Obama, but they certainly get an F- for not investigating this man and his associates. It is a horrible waste of the first ammendment rights to not be balanced and not use their investigating resources to let the American people know what they are getting. This book is a must read, sadly it will never be reviewed in the Washington Post book section.

Mr. Goldberg presents a very well-written book that should provoke thought, not crass remarks in defense of 'Obama'. Albeit the title leans way over to the side, it is a very informative book that should not be simply passed over as 'right-wing' malarkey. And whilst on the subject, let us be candid; Barack Obama will not walk on water, okay? I'll say it once again; HE WILL NOT WALK ON WATER. Nor will he reinvent the wheel, cure cancer or reveal the meaning of life. He is not some messiah or 'chosen one' who'll "lead us into the promised land;" he's just a guy. A guy who, by the way, speaks well and has a degree of charisma that helped him ascend to the office of president without the practical experience that would normally qualify anyone else. PLEASE liberals, understand this so that we can get to the point where we can see just how he'll do in his term.

An outstanding Job of finally saying what those of us without a voice in the public domain have been saying along. Thoughtfully laid out with detailed examples of this media frenzied love affair. You have to be blind after reading this book to not admit that Goldberg is SPOT ON

He really made his point in a consise, unbiased way. I know longer trust the media, because they obviously have their own agenda, and he proves this over and over. I am scared for this country, but at least now I know where to go to get unbiased and fair news!

Bernie Goldberg wrote a very concise book. This book begged to be written. I had always wondered where this man named Barack came from. How exactly did he win?? The media was looking for a ultra-liberal and they found him. It sickens me to realize how he and his Clinton re-treds are hurting my country. Thank you,Bernie for this book.

This is a miserable era, thanks in no small part to the party, and President, in power as it descended into hell the last four years. There, that's out of the way. But, this book is not really about which party won elections, partisan grievences against Obama and his decisive victory...this book is not "right," it's CORRECT about popular media's biases in its coverage of Barak Obama and the campaign. Goldberg has done it again and it must drive his peers nuts to have as effective a whistle blower as him to point out their weakness over and over and over again. Just as Rush Limbaugh is biased, so is NBC. Just as Sean Hannity is biased, so is CBS. Just as Glenn Beck is biased, so is ABC. The difference is that commentators like Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck don't pretend to be objective and are conservative commentators. Therein lies the problem with major broadcast network news personalities and agendas. You can like Obama or hate him I don't care, but stop denying he got loved to pieces by an industry that engages in smug and negative caricatures of conservative cable news networks all the while indulging in its own deceit like a bunch of hypocritical Pharisees. It's been going on for decades at the big dailies and broadcast news giants. Read this book if you seek truth about media bias. Read all Goldberg's books for the same reason. They present irrefutable evidences all along the way and they are true.

Observing the process slowly unfold was scary enough, reading it in such depth really brought it out in full.
So many of the voting populace were kept completely ignorant of the history of the person who is now our president. I do hope for Obama to succeed, because his failure or success belongs to every American. I also hope that there are people in the media watching him and the rest of our government without a thrill running up their leg, but with a critical eye to make sure they are looking out for us.

I bought this book because I have felt like I was going crazy...that I was the only one concerned with the total death of the media during this last farce of an election season. I bought this book for affirmation purposes, not so much educational...but was pleasantly surprised to learn many things along the way. A good read that will unfortunately be buried by most literary publications.

These book was entertaining and informative. Love his point about the media not reporting in an unbiased fashion and how dangerous that is to out very freedoms. The media themselves should read this and examine themselves. They can have their own beliefs but their job is to report the news and let us decide. If they want to sway people's opinion they can always get a job as a commentator.

It is unlikely Mr. Goldberg has endeared himself with some of his colleagues. However, he endears himself with readers since his portrayal of the press' role in the Obama campaign is very well researched and cited in the body of his paragraphs; thus written in clear, refreshing fashion. The reader will be relieved that this is not some simple-minded diatribe against Obama, but rather is an ominous telling of what was, is, and will be the American Press and Mainstream Media. Unfortunately, he paints a dismally clear future as he progressively weaves his tale of woeful press performance. Mr. Goldberg draws on his own long experience in the news business and leaves no doubt about his subject. Mr. Goldberg alludes to solutions without being overbearing. He criticizes without malice and sticks to the facts in an easily read format. An easy read with unanticipated substance -- a pleasure.

This book presents what the media that traditionally is liberal has done for this President. It has basically created him, and it makes the reader think that it will be very ugly when the media falls "out of love" with this guy and turns on him. Great read for political thinkers!

I expected this book to be about B. Obama and his campaign, but it was a commentary on how Obama was covered by the media. I consider myself someone who keeps up with the news. But I could never have chronicled the media coverage the way Bernie did. He disected so many different mainstream media personalities in a scholarly and entertaining fashion that makes the book easy and enjoyable to read. I hope that more people chronicle the downfall of the American media the way that Bernie does, so when we look back and wonder why they country failed, we can point the finger at the people who allowed it to happen. I also think that the "professors" at the various institutions that teach journalism use this book in their classes so that future generations of jouralists aren't poisoned by their ideology when "reporting" the news. If you deny that there is a bias, you simply need to look at the CNN correspondent that gave a guy with a two year old a hard time because he was saying something she didn't believe in. What a joke they have become.

Anyone that lived through the last presidential election felt that there was something wrong!! This book confirms all the unusual happenings that made you shake your head and wonder! The author lists all the times that the media ignored or elaborated upon situations to provide a glorious view of Barak Obama.

Bernie Goldberg is a talented writer who researches his facts. Slobbering Love Affair is hilarious, informative, and a candid look at the comedy that has become our nation's political system.
Semi-liberal More than 1 year ago
Bernard Goldberg's ruthless critique of the mainstream press coverage of Barack Obama's Presidential campaign is too well researched and too cogently written to be ignored. It encapsulates my experience of the campaign and explains why I couldn't bring myself to vote for Obama. I felt that no reliable news source was providing me with any useful information about the candidate. Quite the contrary, I saw hit job after hit job performed in the mainstream press on Obama's rivals, which caused me to turn in disgust toward support of a third-party candidate. I disagree with Goldberg in one important respect. I believe his right perception leads to a wrong conclusion. He regards, almost paranoiacally, restoration of the fairness doctrine as a liberal ruse to cleanse broadcast journalism of its conservative stars. I believe restoration of the fairness doctrine will give news directors the incentive they need to rebalance their newsrooms, bringing responsible journalists of every stripe under the mainstream tent. Moreover, Goldberg fails to observe that the vigor of right-wing journalism has inspired a counterattack from the left that was largely responsible for putting Obama in the White House. Restoration of the fairness doctrine would force bias in journalism into the blogosphere and restore the public interest to its rightful place at the center of mainstream news reporting.

Goldberg uses much of the book to restate his conclusions reached in his book Bias. As I listened to the book I stopped periodically and checked on a number of statements he presented as facts. I found his research to be dead-on. In spite of his condemning research, Goldberg does remain forgiving of the guilty parties in the media. They are much less forgiving of him. His research makes it easy to understand the failure of several large newspapers in recent months. He offers constructive solutions to the media bias issue.

This book is the best analysis of the main street media approach to Obama I have ever seen. It clearly shows the bias they have shown from the start of his campaign till today. It is a sad commentary on where our media has gone and how they are no longer fair or balanced regarding politics.

Bernie gives a good insight into the Media and it's motivation and intent.I do agree with what he presents in this book. The examples he uses are very precise in making the point he is presenting. He is always very entertaining and amusing while he informs the reader. It did repeat information at times in the book, giving me the feeling he was padding it up a bit.
