Overview

A gift of love, a promise that reaches beyond the grave.

'A Song For Joey' is an emotional, nostalgic saga of love and hate, played against the background of Britain as it emerges from the destruction of World War Two.

Meet Paolo and Rita, reluctant parents, and Rita's mother, Gladys, who picks up the pieces.

Then get to know Belinda, a girl with a gift, and Joey, who enters her life when she thinks she has lost everything. He teaches her how to survive on the streets, and after he dies, she makes a solemn promise at his graveside to one day give him what is then beyond her reach.

With Joey watching over her, Belinda overcomes heartache and dreadful abuse in her quest to become a successful pop singer and to keep her promise to Joey.

On the way, she learns that love has many forms; she meets Connor, a gay man who becomes her best friend, and Oliver, her lover. But her past catches up with her, and a man she thought she had escaped threatens to exact his revenge in a terrible and brutal way.

Meet the Author

I am Liz Mills - incredibly old, but (amazingly) still fully functional. I was born of gentle, loving parents in Southend-on-Sea in the county of Essex, England, famous for its pier, shingle beaches and seaweed. I now live in the euphemistically named Three Bridges, in West Sussex, with my writer fiancée Douglas. My childhood was undistinguished: expelled from posh school for being dim, I found my level in the state secondary education system, emerging with just enough basic skills to enable me to get a job … then another job … then another … and so on. At various points in my life I married and divorced a few times, producing two children, who are now adults and whom I love. Writing was always a hobby, followed intermittently, until I shook off the shackles of the capitalist slavery system and gratefully accepted retirement. I developed my writing skills by reading and analysing the work of others. From some, I learnt how to write, while others showed me the mistakes to avoid; I am grateful to all of them. At the age of sixty, as retirement loomed, I reinvented myself. I threw off the mantle that had stifled me for my whole adult life, and discovered, inside, the person I should have been. That person is now Elizabeth Audrey Mills, chatelaine and author of three full-length novels for adults/young adults, and a science-fiction series for young teens. All my books are available in all e-reader formats through Smashwords, and in paperback through Amazon Createspace. With fellow authors around the globe, I am also a founding member of the new e-magazine, INNOVATE, an exciting literary and artistic e-magazine. INNOVATE is devoted to bringing original and thought-provoking features from established and up-and-coming authors, artists and performers, as well as pioneering new frontiers with enhanced media. INNOVATE is available through Smashwords, and check out our web page at ... http://innovate-emagazine.com/

When a story can touch your mind, heart, and soul it is like listening to music. Beautiful music. This book, this story is the reason I read. I gobble books up like peanuts and most I cannot remember once I've finished. There are so many that just run together into a muddy river in my mind. This story will stay on the shore with a few others. I'm not a book critic and find it difficult to write reviews. This story touched me. It is a story about love, loss, strength, betrayal, and trust. Mostly love. Real love, not lust. Some parts will be offensive to some people, other parts should be offensive to people. Some part of this book will touch you.

Elizabeth Audrey Mills has done it again. "A Song for Joey," is a wonderful story. If you have ever felt, heard or dreamed of a deceased loved one (which I have), you will appreciate Belinda Bellini as she navigates her challenging childhood with the help of some very special people.
