A Spectacle of Glory is a year long devotional by Joni Eareckson Tada. It's a small book which is nice because it's easy to carry with you and keep close. It has a ribbon book mark which I always appreciate. The devotions are one page each with a scripture reference at the top and a little story or explanation of the scripture and then closes with a prayer for the day. I like the briefness and the thoughts are encouraging and I like having a scripture reference to start with as you can always read more. This book would make a lovely gift, but I think I'll be keeping my copy. I give this book a full 5 stars. **This book was given to me by BookLookBloggers in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are mine.**

My husband is a big fan of Eareckson Tada's books so I figured this would be the perfect devotional for us to do together. I love the format of a page a day devotional. It includes an inspirational message, a prayer and a Bible passage to look up for deeper study. We take turns reading the passage, talk about application to our lives and then we investigate the Bible passage on days when time allows. I love the built in bookmark in the book and the message of God's light shining through us. The messages are all so uplifting and encouraging with easy application to our daily lives. We look forward to doing this devotional every day and think it'll be easy to stick with for the whole year.

A Spectacle of Glory God's Light Shining through Me Every Day By Joni Eareckson Tada with Larry Libby is a new pocket sized daily devotional book. Joni Eareckson Tada of Joni and Friends Christian Institute on Disability, is known best by many readers, as an inspirational hero of faith who suffers from quadriplegia as a result of a diving injury suffered at the age of 17. I first learned of Jodi Eateckson Tada's story as a college student when I read her inspirational autobiography. Over the years I found myself drawn to her story and example when life became difficult with various trials. This little book of 365 devotionals- one for every year is a perfect compendium of daily inspiration and empowerment. Her faith and resilience in the face of disability and tragedy is an inspiration and model for all Christians and especially for those facing tragic circumstances and disability. One may wonder where Joni finds her strength and how she maintains her strength and faith. For true inspirational devotionals, side by side with bible scripture- this devotional is resource is where to turn. Unlike many devotional books on the market- this daily devotional is truly dedicated to those readers who are actively suffering or going through trial. Joni provides the tools needed to empower and inspire even the most apathetic and depressed of readers. Whether you are facing the grief of loss, terminal illness, disability or even the loss of a job- this book is certain to provide comfort. I received a copy of this book published by Zondervan as a Booklook bloggerfor the purpose of writing this review.

The devotions were heart felt and truly enlightens the scripture. It is a great jumping off point to deeper thought and reflection. I found myself wanting to read ahead to know what insights God gave to Joni. I always think gleaning things from other Christians helpful and useful for growth. This will be a useful book for years to come. A Spectacle of Glory: A Devotional by Joni Eareckson Tada with Larry Libby The story of Joni Eareckson Tada is a remarkable one indeed, someone who has lived as a quadriplegic for over fifty years and yet been full of faith and trust in the living God. This new devotional, A Spectacle of Glory, is a book that combines practical wisdom, scriptural insights, and application from a life given over to reveling in God’s light every day. Yet, one of the greatest assets of this devotional is the way Joni uses her own experience through suffering to shed light on how God brings about his good work through it all, identifying with the certain struggles and sometimes literal pain of those who she’s writing about. The parts in the book that fueled my spirit were Joni’s prayers at the end of each day. One day after looking at the connection between sharks swimming with their mouth open and Christians being called to keep moving for Christ, Joni wrote, “Lord, forgive for dwelling on past hurts and disappointments – or faded tributes or long ago moments in the spotlight. Fill me afresh with your Spirit and your Word.” (54) We very often remember the past and bring it to mind as we experience life, especially the wrongs people have committed against us, but this kind of activity prolongs bitterness and anger. Joni reminds her readers that forgiveness is both a continual thing for present sins and for holding onto the past too tightly. Another aspect of this book that might seem very insignificant but is very key is the texture of Joni’s faith. In one devotional day she writes, “Others may whine and gripe about the world “going to hell and a handbasket,” but honestly, we know better. We know that good will ultimately triumph. So let’s show what this ultimate good will look like by rolling up our sleeves and helping neighbors, feeding the hungry, and surprising people with courtesy and care in Jesus’ name.” (294) We become cynical and whiny by looking to the headlines and not having the hope of Christ in our lives. Joni reminds us of the beauty of the faith by reminding that God is the one who is steering the ship in the right direction. Thanks to Handlebar and Zondervan for providing a copy of this book for review.

This beautiful pocket/purse size hardback devotional is inspirational. It includes a devotional for every day of the year. The devotionals are short and easy to read, yet powerful and encouraging. Each one includes a Scripture to read, which is something I really like about this devotional, and ends with a prayer. A lot of books only include one verse, but this one has an actual passage you read before reading the author's writings. Joni is experienced with suffering, disability and trusting God. You can sense that through her words. She offers hope, inspiration, and definitely takes us back to the One who can help us in any situation, by bringing honor and glory to HIM. I am looking forward to gathering glimpses of my Lord in the pages of this book this year. I would definitely recommend it. I received a free copy from Handlebar to review. All opinions are my own and I was not asked to give a positive review.

"A Spectacle of Glory : God's Light Shining Through Me Every Day" is filled with 365 devotions, one for each day of the year. Each devotion contains a portion of Scripture to focus on, sometimes it contains one verse and sometimes more. There is also a prayer at the end of each devotion that is often said in the tense of author Joni Eareckson Tada, but can be applied to each individual reader's life. There are also footnotes at the bottom of some of the devotions that list other Scripture verses as they are brought into the devotions. Joni often uses examples of what she has endured in her life to help people find a lot of hope, encouragement, and truth through their circumstances. She also sometimes uses examples of other well known people to show a spiritual example or truth. I felt a calm tone while reading through this devotional book. I often looked forward to pulling it out because the devotions often focused on one portion of Scripture at a time. I sometimes made notes in my Bible about verses related to hope, which I like to be reminded of when reading Scripture. Some of the devotions made me realize that no matter what life's circumstances I need to try harder to help people through their difficulties even when I'm going through my own. I often said the prayers listed at the end of devotions at night and my spirit often felt calmer. I also felt some spiritual excitement as a result of praying some of them, hoping God might answer what I was praying for. This devotion book has helped me to understand just how important it is to find time to connect with Jesus (Yeshua) every day, no matter what could distract me from doing so; I became encouraged to bust through the distractions that want my time, and find time to connect with Him each day. I received this book free for the purpose of reviewing it.

I read Joni Eareckson Tada's book, "When God Weeps" many years ago. So I was excited when I received a complimentary copy of her new devotional. She writes from a deep place. Her words are rich and full of substance. I believe it's because she understands what it's like to suffer, and not get healed. Especially after going to several healing services and her prayers went unanswered. To me, her faith in Jesus Christ is real and doesn't waiver, because of her situation. She demonstrates true faith, which goes against the grain of what's popular and accepted in Christian circles today. This is why her devotional speaks to me, because there is no "pie in the sky" fluff. I highly recommend it. *I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received a copy of A SPECTACLE OF GLORY: GOD’S LIGHT SHINING THROUGH ME EVERY DAY: A DEVOTIONAL by Joni Eareckson Tada with Larry Libby from Zondervan in exchange for an honest review. This is a 265 day devotion book. I have read a few in the past – my uncle introcued me to them – and I have found great peace with reading devotionals. I admit that I don’t always read them just once a day. Often I will return to it or read a few passages at once if I am feeling stressed. Each page in A SPECTACLE OF GLORY is donated to a new day. The passages are based on scripture and succinct, and because they are just a page, it is perfect for someone with a busy schedule. I really like that the book is pocket-sized. It is perfect for taking with you. A little background on Joni, the author: She has been a paraplegic for about fifty years. Her words come from the heart of someone who has a close relationship with God, and someone who knows what it is like to have a disability, but still live each day to the fullest. This devotional makes an excellent gift, especially with 2017 right around the corner.
