A Sprig of Adventure
Have ye ever carried a glow worm in yer pocket to light the way through a dark cavern? Have ye ever seen a mountain on fire, or listened to the tiny voices of small sea creatures, or been caught in snow deeper then yer own head?

Maybe it be strange to ye that a man only five feet tall lives in a giant oak tree, but my life be different from most folks. At well over a hundred years old, I have had plenty of time for adventure, and I have journaled most of my travels. The unpredictable Slipaway Trail has provided me passage throughout the world, learning new healing techniques and potions, and studying the sometimes dangerous nature of magic.

I be called healer, explorer, debunker. I have consulted with kings and wise men, pulled a missing child from beneath an oak leaf six feet long, ridden a warhorse, and lost the love of my life.

I will share with ye the wonderful, awful, curious world I live in. Come into these pages and join my adventures!

About the Author

Martha Gilstrap's life is filled with stories: the ones she reads, the ones she writes, and the ones she lives. Her family's oral tradition claims descent from the legendary Leif Erickson, the discoverer of America-a tale of which she is inordinately proud, although her mother always wondered why she'd claim "that old pirate."

She's ridden motorcycles, earned a black belt in RyuTe® Karate, owned her own dojo, trained on the grounds of an Okinawan castle destroyed in WWII, and edited and published an international karate newsletter. She's taught Latin to grade-school children, worn a bite sleeve for a Rottweiler "attack," got thrown by a horse twice within five minutes, spent New Year's Eve on the Puerta del Sol in Madrid, and survived a tropical storm in Acapulco. She's visited wolves (well socialized, of course) in their pen, played with horny toads, petted snakes, ridden an elephant, and once sang with the band on a yacht in Acapulco Bay.

She lives in the Kansas City area with her daughter and four rescued dogs.
