From Barnes & Noble
As a child, Dave Goulson always loved pets and other animals, but his special passions were insects, especially the bees then so common in British fields. In time, his interest focused on one bee species of the ten thousand: the short-haired bumblebee which a quarter century ago disappeared from the UK. As a biology professor and conservationist, he made it his special project to reintroduce these tiny workaholics to his country. This nature memoir, obviously also a labor of love, offers a wonderfully readable and accessible account of one man's call for ecological sanity.
