Overview

A faith-based crime thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Homicide detective Fran Anders's latest case throws her into the lives of Mike and Alisa Jepson, a couple whose marriage is disintegrating fast.

When leads coming into the precinct point at Mike Jepson as guilty of murder, Fran watches the damage wrought on this couple, yet is unable to ignore the incriminating evidence. When Mike ends up arrested and in jail, Alisa takes comfort in a friend--Dee Dee--who moves in with her but soon becomes her worst nightmare. Mike hires a PI who uncovers clues to who is setting Mike up, but Alisa is caught in a trap before Mike can protect her.

Although Fran reaches out to Alisa during her crisis of faith, she is unable to stop events from barreling toward a crash. Yet, despite the tragedies to follow, Fran sees how God has used the Jepsons' trials and pain to bring Alisa back into His arms, with hope that Mike might follow suit.

Meet Fran Anders, homicide detective
Fran is a dedicated, no-frills cop who takes her job seriously but with a wry sense of humor. She suffers from the unbearable heat, from unrelenting allergies, but does not suffer fools. As much as she wants to please her superiors, she knows her true boss is--God--and she answers first and foremost to his leading, which sometimes takes her beyond the call of duty, often to the ire of those around her.

A middle-aged, divorced, single parent with two teens, Fran hopes someday to find a great man and remarry, but she's not holding her breath. Right now, she just wants to be a good cop and mother, and use her faith to help those she encounters in her line of work learn there's someone "up there" who truly cares for them.

This book, once I got into it, kept me on the edge of my seat. It has a lot of action. It kept me wondering throughout, was Mike really innocent? I loved the plot that the author came up with, it was really believable, especially in today's world. There is also a great Christian message in this book. Alisa learned to rely on GOD again, and that GOD uses your darkest hours for his good. Great job. I received a copy of this book to review for the author through Christian Women Affiliate.

A Thin Film of Lies delivers an enthralling read. While it took me awhile to get into it, once the story got going I couldn't read fast enough to find out what happened. The main characters and the twists their lives took kept me guessing, and the ending took me completely by surprise. This is a very enjoyable, entertaining book in the Christian mystery genre.

"Lakin knows how to cook up a tasty story, laden fat with calories of deceit, betrayal, and unexpected twists. In the end, the author gives us something even more valuable than a great read: hope"

Last weekend was a haze. You know why?
I could not put down this fantastic book!

First, let me offer a surprising disclaimer: I am not a mystery fan. A Christian Crime novel didn't really pique my interest, but as the Operations Manager of The CWA Review Crew I had a free copy to peruse. Yeah, I said peruse. Let me be clear though. If you pick up this book you will not simply peruse. Your life will be in a paused state until you reach the last page. It's just that good.

I always expect a good read from C.S. Lakin and this one doesn't disappointed. It has a great plot, really excellent character development and a good pace. Now, I have to admit when I started reading it, I was apprehensive because it's about someone being framed for murder. I usually don't read those types of books because I get so frustrated! But she did a good job of building the suspense but then moving on to the accused hiring a private detective who helps break the case. I love the characte

I really enjoyed reading Susanne Lakin's book "A Thin Film

I really enjoyed reading Susanne Lakin's book "A Thin Film of Lies". This book is a homicide novel filled with suspense and action, with a spiritual overtone to it. It was exciting and engaging while still not being too graphic. It is a Christian novel but has a bit of worldly tones to the storyline. It is not for the traditional Christian reader. The author adds a bit of intrigue and real to life crime in this book.

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to friends. I would warn them that that it is not for late night reading as it may cause some to be scared who are readers of traditional Christian novels.

I rate this book a 5 star. It captured my interest and kept it throughout the story. I enjoyed the storyline and the heart-pounding additions of real to life crimes.

    Disclaimer:

I received this book free from the author through CWA, in exchange for a review. This fact has no impact what-so-ever on my review. I give honest reviews.

I would highly reccommend A Thin Film of Lies to anyone who love

I would highly reccommend A Thin Film of Lies to anyone who loves a good mystery!!  C.S. Lakin did an amazing job of drawing me in and then held me in suspense until the very end of the book.  I couldn't solve the mystery until C.S. Lakin revealed it at the end of the book.  (And believe me I tried!)  She now has a new fan!
