Overview

This deluxe illustrated edition of A Thousand Splendid Suns is filled with striking and memorable photographs that bring Khaled Hosseini's compelling story to life. Since its publication in 2007, A Thousand Splendid Suns has shipped more than three million copies. The bestselling adult novel of 2007, it spent fifteen weeks at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and remained on the list for an impressive forty-nine weeks. Propelled by the same superb instinct for storytelling that made The Kite Runner a beloved classic, A Thousand Splendid Suns is at once an incredible chronicle of thirty years of Afghan history and a deeply moving story of family, friendship, faith, and the salvation to be found in love.

Now, in this lavishly designed edition of the novel, the narrative is enhanced by expressive photos that capture the people and culture of the region in vivid detail and reflect the book's powerful themes, so apt for our times: the passionate search for family, home, acceptance, a healthy society, and a promising future-regardless of the obstacles. Together with The Kite Runner: Illustrated Edition, the illustrated A Thousand Splendid Suns creates a beautiful matched set.

I loved Kite Runner so I thought I'd give this a try. I brought this book with me on vacation and found myself waking early before this kids got up so I could read. I didn't want it to end, but when I got to the final page, all I felt was satisfaction and I knew this one would become at the top of a very short list of my favorite stories. A great read! I would definitely recommend.

Khaled Hosseini never disappoints. After reading the Kite Runner

Khaled Hosseini never disappoints. After reading the Kite Runner, I couldn't help but run out and buy A Thousand Splendid Suns. I wasn't sure how it was going to compare to the Kite Runner (which had already set the bar pretty high in my opinion), but I actually ended up liking this novel even more (maybe because I am a woman). But the storyline of A Thousand Splendid Suns appealed to me a lot more... I cried many times reading this book. I cried for Laila. I cried for Mariam. I felt empathic towards both of their characters... Mariam was so inspirational and strong despite her hardships (or rather, BECAUSE of them); Laila was so loving and kind. The last line made me cry once more... But the game involves only male names. Because if its a girl, Laila has already named her... Oh man, I was bawling! If you haven't read it yet, read it! No review can do this book justice. Its just that great! Cant wait to read And The Mountains Echoed... Keep em coming, Khaled!

I read and analyzed this story with my senior AP English class and we all loved it! I couldn't put the book down when I had already read all the pages we were assigned because of how anxious I became to see what happened next! Hossieni is an amazing author and i recommend this book to to all women and people who like books that keep you guessing.
