Laney Johnson, a beautiful, petite public school teacher is beginning to find her spirit after the devastating failure of her marriage to her high school sweetheart, Sam. In her quest for healing, she and her friend, Bev, visit Hawaii where she plans to follow her dream of becoming an artist.

Her adventure begins when she meets the handsome Paul Westfield, pilot and widowed father of two sons-one of whom is a Down's syndrome child. Although their romance takes root in the beautiful setting of Hawaii, there are many challenges to their relationship including his scheming ex-girl friend and her attraction to a successful West Texas businessman. The resolution of the dilemma lies in their ability to develop confidence and trust within themselves on which to build a lasting and loving marriage. .

Meet the Author

Mary was born on a farm near Leona, Kansas, but moved to Texas in her teen years. She graduated from Southwest Texas State and later earned a master�s degree in English from Sam Houston State and a master�s in psychology from the University of Houston/Victoria. Currently, she�s retired after having taught twenty-four years in the public schools. She and her husband, Gene, raised three children and have eight grandchildren, all of which are the light of their lives. She remains intensely interested in women�s issues both in the past and in the present.
