A Treasury of Hans Christian Andersenby Hans Christian Andersen
One of the pleasures of being grown-up is to return to the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen, and to find them as poignant and as richly entertaining as they were in childhood. Another adult pleasure is to take a child with you into Andersen's special world of dreamlike delights. Now treat yourself to both of these joyous reading experiences with an excursion through this major collection of 72 tales by the beloved Danish writer.
All of the beauty and vividness of Andersen's original prose is captured in this faithful, modern translation. Some of the most famous of his fairy tales are gathered here, among them "The Ugly Duckling," "The Emperor's New Clothes," "The Snow Queen," "The Red Shoes," and "The Little Mermaid." In addition, many of Andersen's less familiar, but equally lovely tales are included: "The Old Oak Tree's Last Dream," "The Great Sea Serpent," "The Shadow," and "The Professor and the Flea," to name a few. If you have never come across these stories, anticipate the enchantment that only a master storyteller can provide. Andersen's stories are aglow with lyrical and romantic feelings that continue to warm the hearts of young and old alike.

I read this book when in my childhood, and now I have a few dozen grandchildren who need to enjoy it, as I did. No one is ever too old to enjoy Andersen's many fairy tales, trust me! Just the name of one of his stories evokes memory pictures and sensations that are as fresh as when I first read them. So, this is a heritage I wish my many grandchildren to enjoy. I am ordering several at this fabulous price for birthdays and Christmases to come.
