Overview

Allisande of Lockwraithe paid the price for her father's treachery when the Viking invaders destroyed her home and abducted her for ransom.
The Viking leader, Joran Ivarsson, swore to make her suffer as his slave. One look into his fiery slave's eyes and he was the one enslaved.
Allisande expected to suffer at her captors hands, not feel the first stirrings of desire for her barbaric new master.
Forced into slavery in a harsh, unyielding land, she comes to understand the man who owns her. Sworn to hate him forever for the death of her father, Allisande learns the insidious truths that make her question all she has ever known.
Joran the Stonehearted, he is nicknamed, for his lack of softness for women and mercy in battle. Allisande undermines his best intentions to remain aloof to her, cracking the granite layers of his heart, making him question his using her as an instrument of revenge.
Slave soon conquers master as the fires of passion bring them closer. A force of wills clash and a tragic circumstance drives them apart.
Allisande and Joran become embroiled in a bitter web of deceit when Joran's father seeks his ultimate revenge against his enemies. Joran must choose between the woman who owns his heart and the father he has sworn loyalty to.

Fabulous!! I could not put the book down! I absolutely love everything about this author!!!

I liked the characters. There were grammatical errors and sometimes the story was a bit jumpy and repetitive. I suppose the purpose of some miscellaneous characters who were not well-developed or disappeared here might appear in some spin off books... Finally, as others mentioned, and even my little knowledge realized: the children would not be Ivarssons.

Wow. Emotional turbulence while reading this very good book!

I liked the story, but was disappointed that the author didn't take the time to play things out. Characters suddenly knew things that were secret or happened elsewhere, ruining the possibilities for suspense. The spelling and grammatical errors were very distracting.

I really loved the book . I think in some cases they let their pride rule more than common sense. All though I know this is a work of fiction, Ms. Cairns should have done at least a little bit of research . Any chilren from Joran would have the last name of Joran(sen )( son is the Swedish spelling)also any female children would be called Joransdatter( meaning daughter of Joran . All children were named after their father they really did not have surnames in the traditional sense .It was not until the late 1800s that Norwegians took traditional surnames.

Expected alot with all the great reviews but was disappointed. It started slowly and I kept reading waiting for the good parts, but after the intro of a random fairy and so many rapes I gave up.

Another good book with heartbreaking twist. I find myself hating Collin with a passion, but i cant wait for his story. I hope she makes he suffer and feel guilty.

I love this story, it made me laugh, cry and believe in true love all over again. I loved the main characters, Allisande is a really strong woman, I loved it, but she's sweet and lovable as a woman. Joran is a strong warrior with a wonderful heart. It took me a while to read the book, can't remember why, but once I started the book I could not put my nook down. Love it

This book was very repetitive. The characters would repeat the same thoughts several times on the same page. The characters were sometimes inconsistant and their thoughts wouldnt match their actions. I think the author had to resort to the shock factor to keep the book going. Decent enough to read through. Beware rape scenes and abortion/miscarriage situation. I liked how there were several different couples.

This was a wonderful novel complete with well developed characters. It had swordplay, warring, drama, romance and passion. I wish i had known though that there were rape scenes in the book, which are disturbing. However, the heroine is a remarkable character ehose strength was addicting to read about"
